In Sept. 2011, our nation experienced one of the deadliest outbreaks of foodborne illness when a cantaloupe crop from a Colorado farm tested positive for Listeria, a life-threatening bacterial infection. Earlier this month, the family of California former football player Ted Agu  filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Regents of the University of California. Agu had sickle cell anemia disease. He died following an offseason training run on February 7th of this year in Berkeley.  The lawsuit says he had sickle cell and should not have been put through a “lethal conditioning training.”

9NEWS reported this morning that a person was injured in a Denver hit-and-run that closed down a part of northbound Colorado Boulevard at East Iowa Avenue until around 7 a.m. Officers said the victim was driving on northbound Colorado Boulevard in a green Ford Explorer around 4:15 a.m. when a red Jeep Wrangler going east on Iowa Avenue hit the victim.

Viola Tennant died on November 30, 2011 at the age of 77 after buying and eating a listeria tainted cantaloupe. The listeria outbreak in 2011 reportedly originated with cantaloupe from a farm in Colorado.
