I understand your UX point. But re model, the counter-argument you linked to seems very compelling. IIUC, web-first lets you iterate ("lean startup" style) incredibly fast. Whereas mobile apps seem closer to shrink-wrap in that regard -- better, but not great?
+Tau-Mu Yi that's true. But it's hard to disrupt without enough real users and money. :)  The post +MG Siegler linked to by +Vibhu Norby was about how much easier it is to iterate onboarding with web apps, and therefore how web-first can still be a smarter choice for startups.
