Finished the individual sessions ... this may be the most eclectic group we've worked with: prospector, adventurer, storyteller, set designer, painter, political maven...  men, women, young and old, black and white, gay, straight, bi... AND the stories! Friendship. Forgiveness. Fathers. Family... Come find out what Sugar Cube Potions, 13 Hour Bus Rides, and Men in Sarongs Watching Football all have in common.  URBAN TELLERS is a monthly story showcase that is held at the ALBERTA ABBEY on the 2nd Saturday of the month. Urban tellers stand alone on stage, fueled by the POWER OF THEIR STORIES and the ENERGY OF THE AUDIENCE. Together, tellers and listeners, embark on a

Being Present in the moment and recognizing who loves you, what matters, where you are, and when to let go ― can help you make the choices that make your life worth living. The stories you are about to hear cover a wide range of experiences that will give you some insights into the personal choices that each of these people has made.  Stories of starting flash fires in Papua New Guinea, learning what it means to die well, dropping your baby brother on his head, dreaming of hideous wedding dresses, having two mothers, liberating rivers of butterflies… it all comes back to being present.
Tomorrow night's Urban Tellers are Ann Harris (Hood River), Howard Bulick (Bingen), Jackie McManus (White Salmon), Megan Farrell (Mosier), and Mari Matthias (Underwood), along with Portland Story Theater's Lynne Duddy (Portland). Lynne is stepping in to fill Julie Hatfield’s slot in the story lineup. We all extend our deepest sympathy to Julie and her family over the death of her dad.

This is the story that I told with Portland Story Theater at the Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River and with Sharon Knorr at SOLO SPEAK in Bend. This is the latest segment of my story about being adopted, what it's like reuniting after 42 years with my birth mother, and how we are building a relationship now after 18 years... the best part was watching it the other day with Eddie (Edna).

"Dude, you're on the cover of the A&E!"

That's the text we received from one of our friends the day after Thanksgiving. We were thrilled!

The November 8th #UrbanTellers  is turning into an amazing show... the theme that has organically emerged?  REINVENTION! Change means reinvention. Each time a major shift happens in our lives we have to grab a hold of who we will become or risk never reaching our full potential. Striking at the heart of personal transformation, from moving to a new city to witnessing the aftermath of destruction, these stories touch on the essential value of who we are and what really matters.  Featuring Shelley Bedell, Jeremy Lucas, Niko Moe, Robert Post, Melissa Henige, and Donna Zerner. #AlbertaAbbey   http://portlandstorytheater.strangertickets.com/Home

Now entering our 10th season, Portland Story Theater always delivers a potent blend of vulnerability and heart. Exhilarating. Energizing. Empowering. Real, true stories told by real people, face-to-face, eye-to-eye, and heart-to-heart. Stories that matter. Stories that offer a glimpse into the human experience, and this journey we all share. LISTENING BUILDS CONNECTION: Be open. People are transformed by being heard. Listen openheartedly. EVERYON...

Tickets for the upcoming #UrbanTellers  are going fast and it's already turning into a phenomenal show with the theme LIFE IS DUALITY. There is no light without darkness, no heat without cold, no yin without yang, no yes without no. Opposites exist within each of us. Which wolf do we feed? How do we find balance? There just might be a clue in these stories about building a dream house, fishing in Alaska, trekking in the Amazon, trying to live in the present, and finding the courage to start over again with nothing. Thrilled to be a part of this... and it's the first workshop group to perform at the #AlbertaAbbey! Exciting times!
