We're thrilled to announce that Chairman of Special Olympics Tim Shriver will be delivering the closing keynote address at our 2017 Annual Conference! Part of an innovative team, social leader Tim Shriver has helped create Special Olympics programs that give voices to and opportunities for those with intellectual disabilities, and he has worked hard to represent the wants and needs of the Special Olympics community to government leaders.

Don't miss our 2017 Annual Conference from May 3-6 in Washington D.C. to hear Shriver explore his faith, his journey to public service, his recent book, and his long-standing advocacy work in his closing keynote address.

We are thrilled and honored to be featured in the cover story of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Seeds for the Parish Fall issue. Focusing on adoption services in honor of Adoption Awareness Month, the story celebrates our powerful network and highlights in particular the work of our members Upbring and Lutheran Social Services of WI & Upper MI. Stay tuned for the full article coming out next month!

And did you know recent Valparaiso University (Valpo) grad and Institute for Leadership and Service CAPS fellow Danielle Steinwart helped write the article? Many thanks to our Valpo interns who champion Lutheran social ministry in their hard work with and dedication to organizations like LSA.

Congratulations to the amazing and meaningful work our #MemberMonday Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska (LFSNEB) is doing with refugee resettlement. Last month alone, LFSNEB helped 129 refugees resettle in Nebraska. The story below relays the journey of seven of those refugees, Raad Mhmdah and his family, from war-torn Iraq to Lincoln.

Sara Gilliam, who helped sponsor the Mhmdah family, says, "These people will do nothing but enrich our community... I believe immigration and resettlement of refugees is nothing but a blessing for a city like Lincoln.” Congrats LFCNEB!

Congratulations to our #MemberMonday Lutheran Services Florida (LSF) for the amazing work they’re doing with the Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training program! Partnering with Jacksonville University, LSF will both implement and evaluate a training program that helps equip paraprofessionals with the skills to work with children, adolescents, and transitional-age youth at risk for behavioral health disorders.

Christine Cauffield, Vice President of LSF Health Systems, says, “We are very excited about building this strong training program and serving more children and families in need.” Congrats, LSF!

A big congratulations to our #MemberMonday Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota (LSS of SD)! Pat and Julie Schneider, a couple who used LSS of SD's adoption services to welcome three beautiful children into their family, are being honored with an Angels in Adoption award for their commitment to adoption and for making a lasting impact in the lives of children. The couple was nominated by Kristi Noem, Congresswoman for South Dakota, and will be honored at Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute's annual Angels in Adoption gala tomorrow night.

"Adoption is the best decision we ever made," Pat and Julie said. "All three of our adoptions have been awesome experiences that have opened our hearts and expanded our family in a way we never could have imagined. We thank the Lord every day that we are blessed with the opportunity to parent our children." Congratulations to the Schneider family and to LSS of SD, who helped this family grow and flourish!
