11. Spend 5 minutes in the evening writing down things you are grateful for

This one can be done just as easily in the morning or the night. Or both. 

Cultivating a sense of gratitude is probably one of the best things you can do to live a happy life. 

We already spend a lot of time thinking how we want to change things and get new things. With what's wrong and what could be tweaked.

We set up this unnecessary if-then dynamic for our happiness ... 

• If I can just get this kitchen remodeled, then I can finally be happy. 
• If I can just get the kids off to college, then I can be happy. 
• If I finally get the SVP position, then I can be happy.  
• If I can lose five more pounds, then I can be happy.
• And so on.

But it doesn’t work that way. We get a short boost, then our brains scan the horizon for something else to be unsatisfied about.

If you want to make quantum leaps in terms of your happiness, try this gratitude exercise daily for 30 days. 

Soon, you’re brain will retune. 

One day, you will be walking down the street and out of the blue you will have a thought like, “Man, I am really grateful for this day. It’s sunny outside. The air is fresh. I have clean clothes, a spouse that loves me, and I feel happiness in my heart. Life is good.”
