Review: Metabones "Speed Booster" Nikon F to Fuji X-mount adapter

This adapter claims to boost your shutter speed by a full stop when using FX Nikon lenses on a Fuji X-mount camera while offering nearly the same angle of view as the lens would on a full-frame body.

Read my review and watch the video here.
If you are transitioning to a Fuji X-mount camera system, there may be times when you want to use your existing glass. For this, you need to get a lens mount adapter. While a lens mount adapter lets you use your Nikon (or Canon) lenses with the Fuji X-mount bodies, there are some major ...

Finding Your Light: Digital Techniques for the Traveling Photographer 2pm US Mountain Time (UTC -6)  When we hit the road, we photographers are often faced with less than ideal conditions for photography. Often times, we can't be at a location at the perfect time of day, or with the perfect weather and light. However, the well-prepared photographer knows how to work within the confines of the conditions at hand, and has a virtual camera bag that...

Nikon D7200

Not a major advance over the already excellent D7100, but if you're a wildlife/sports/action shooter, then you'll love the larger capacity buffer in the D7200.

The D7100, IMO, was really crippled by a puny (6 RAW) buffer. It's not that I advocate a spray and pray philosophy to action shooting, but 6 shots is a real hindrance for wildlife and sports. The D7200 has a buffer capacity of 18 raw (NEF) images, which isn't huge, but it's going to be more than enough for most people. Paired with a fast SD card, you should find that the D7200 will deliver the goods for most fast-action work.

Next item on my Nikon wish-list? Give us a 24MP camera that shoots 8fps like we could with the D300 and D700. 6fps just isn't the same.

+Scott Thomas At this point I'd take 8fps and 24MP in a heartbeat, provided there's at least a 15-shot buffer.

Due to a late scratch, I have an extra seat open for South Texas Birding May 14-18.

What you get:

Access to some of the finest blinds in Texas
Three full days of private photo blind access at one of the premier sites in South Texas' Rio Grande Valley. These sites are not open to the public. Expect to capture frame-filling images of birds not common in the rest of the USA, like the golden-fronted woodpecker, pyrrhuloxia, and green jay. Plus, you'll also get amazing captures of birds you might not get close to otherwise, like cardinals, painted buntings, caracara, and warblers.

Air-conditioned accommodations and meals
Four nights lodging and all meals, including beer/wine happy hour each evening. Let me tell you, nothing beats coming back from a shooting session in the Texas heat and having a home-cooked meal waiting for you. No commutes to hotels, no fast-food dining; we stay on the premises.

Hands-on instruction:
We start by getting everyone set up to dial in optimal settings for birding. You'll learn back-button focus, camera settings, and long-lens technique. We also post-process our images together, enjoy casual critique sessions, and I'll be there to answer any and all questions you may have about camera/software settings and workflow.

This is an exclusive opportunity intended for people who want to take their bird photography to the next level by getting super-closeup shots with creamy bokeh backgrounds. It's an incredible trip limited to 6 photographers.

Educating photographers, one pixel at a time
Introduction
Jason P. Odell is a professional photographer, author, and educator in Colorado, USA.

Jason became interested in photography when he received his first camera, a Kodak Ektralite 10, in elementary school. He routinely experimented in his mother's home darkroom and was occasionally allowed to borrow her Nikkormat EL SLR. Jason continued his passion for photography throughout high school, where he was a photographer and editor of the school yearbook.

Jason studied biology at UCLA and later earned his doctorate from the University of California, Riverside. While studying, his field biology work took him to the island of Trinidad, West Indies, where he developed a passion for photographing birds and other wildlife. Jason's doctoral adviser was also an avid nature photographer, so trips to the field always involved packing cameras and lenses.Jason taught at the university level for eight years and has a passion for education.

Jason is the author of numerous eBooks on digital photography and post-processing, available at Luminescence of Nature Press.
