Marilyn Woolfolk (1949- ): Empowered by the feminist movement of the 1960s and 1970s and the advice of her mentors in college, Marilyn Woolfolk sought out dentistry as a career that would allow her to be her own boss in a family-friendly field. After graduating from the University of Michigan’s dental program, Dr. Woolfolk worked as an instructor in Community Dentistry and worked in Ann Arbor Public School’s Head Start Program.

As time progressed, Dr. Woolfolk became more involved in academics as an administrator. During the 1990s, Dr. Woolfolk became Director of Student Affairs and Assistant Dean for Student Services at the University of Michigan. In these roles, not only did Dr. Woolfolk provide personal and career counseling, oversaw financial aid, scholarship resources, and the admissions process, but she also found her niche as she takes great pride in mentoring female students. For her contributions to dental education, Dr. Woolfolk earned the American Dental Education Association’s Presidential Citation in March 2012.
