This is a great article comparing non-orm code vs Entity Framework and Nhibernate code. 
I just ran into trouble trying to delete an child object using EF as my ORM. This helped clarify my issue and I must agree with Vladimir that having EF leak a bunch of its implementation (foreign keys, id, etc) into the domain model makes EF harder to use in a DDD or Onion Architecture.

I have been in all these positions before, Inheriting an application with multiple ways of doing the same thing and being the one to introduce yet another new shiny way of doing the same thing. 
Understanding the trade offs and learning to deal with legacy code comes with experience and most likely means you have to keep your ego in check (hard for developers since we always know better)

As I approach the big 4 oh career planning and where us old developers fit and go is something that seems to be popping up a lot more (or I am now just paying attention).
Do I move into Management, Architect, technical expert, Self Employed, Contract, ...
Time to get my 3, 5, 7 year plan together so I can throw it away when everything changes.
