Community wallpaper contest!

Here we go again! It's that time of the year when Lubuntu asks the community to contribute an artistic touch to the distribution. Please feel free to join us at Flickr and upload your favourite creation, that's one submission per user so make it count smile emoticon.

Submissions are accepted until 1st March 23:59:59 UTC+01:00, and the polls will open shortly after that. The polls will be open until 9th March, and the top five wallpapers will be included by default in Lubuntu 15.04. Please make sure to follow the rules, as failing to do so will get you disqualified.

Good luck to all contestants and please help us spread the word smile emoticon

"Utopic Unicorn" is quite a weird name - would it mean an unicorn reading a book from Thomas More? :D

[Goodbye Windows XP]

Attention please!

In short, if you're 'still' running Windows XP (for whatever reason), please be advised, as per Microsoft, that system will soon be DEAD and no longer supported.

Long version?
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/enterprise/endofsupport.aspx

[What to do?]

~ Choice A ~
Keep Paying for Microsoft and use their Software (Windows 7 or Windows 8) and suffer from tons of problems:
1- Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD)
2- Slowness
3- Viruses, Spywares, etc
4- Non-Stable system (breakable often)
5- Not Secure (any beginner hacker can hack it)
6- Do I really have to carry on?

~ Choice B ~
Keep Calm and Switch to Linux!

Why?
1- Super Fast (you don't need to upgrade your hardware - have 512MB RAM? no problem!)
2- Super Secure (NASA, Google, Facebook, etc ... are using Linux on their Servers for a reason)
3- Super Stable (install it once, you don't ever need to format it)
4- Full Freedom (you have many User Interfaces, Programs, etc)
5- Highly Customizable
6- You do NOT need any Anti-Virus Program (Linux system structure is different and no command to be executed without the user's permission)
7- No more browsing the internet to install any application, you can do that within your system without visiting any website.
8- Free and Open Source Operating System
9- Community Based and World Wide Supported (there are so many people can help you with zero cost)
10- Can always enjoy the very latest software (system and/or programs) - unlike Windows XP, it is more than 12 years old now
11- Linux is being used to backup/save files of broken Windows PC/Laptop
12- Unlike what many people think, it is very and I mean VERY easy to use

Do I have to carry on?

You need more information?
Let us know!

Your choice, no one will force you to use anything :)

Thank you!

P.S.
If your office are still running Windows XP, your friends, someone you know, etc ... please pass this message through :)

Is there a listing and/or directory of lightweight versions of standard ubuntu applications? For example - is there a lightweight version of backup program Deja Dup or lightweight version of video editor Kino?

Lubuntu, the lightweight Ubuntu variant
Introduction
Welcome to the Lubuntu Desktop project

The objective of the Lubuntu project is to create a variant of Ubuntu that is lighter, less resource hungry and more energy-efficient by using lightweight applications and LXDE, The Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment, as its default GUI.

Lubuntu is targeted at "normal" PC and laptop users running on low-spec hardware. Such users may not know how to use command line tools, and in most cases they just don't have enough resources for all the bells and whistles of the "full-featured" mainstream distributions. Members of the team take care of LXDE and other packages that are part of the Lubuntu install. Lubuntu received official recognition as a formal member of the Ubuntu family, commencing with Lubuntu 11.10.

Please join us and contribute to an exciting international Free and Open Source Software project. We look forward to working together with you.
