Where to begin? Scott and Anne could not have been more gracious hosts, making my wife and I feel like we were at home. The Inn and the property are beautiful; the impeccable gardens and the waterfall are not to be missed. We spent the late afternoons rocking on the front porch. Scott gave us a tour to ensure we had the lay of the land, and not only gave us ideas for some day trips, but also a map he marked with directions. Anne was lovely, and quite accommodating to my wife's unusual food allergies-sending her home with some new recipes to make for herself! We will definitely be repeat customers and highly recommend to anyone, the Lovill House in Boone is a great location to visit all the area has to offer. Thank you Scott and Anne for a memorable getaway!

Very rude and rigid owners. Breakfast was so rigid and claustrophobic. At one point a couple who came in last were instructed to go sit down at their designated table because he had to take their juice order before they could get in the buffet line. By the time they got to the buffet there was no more hash browns. And Anne did not refill them. Don't expect to get any protein with breakfast either. I got two paper thin slices of sausage on my square 2 inch egg dish that wasn't cooked thouroughly. Scott used his bare hands on food on buffet table. We had booked the cottage only after talking for 30 minutes about our need for the room to be completely unscented due to asthma. We sent two confirming reminding emails about not using any air fresheners or anything scented. We arrived to find the room heavily scented. When confronted Anne and Scott became defensive, huffed and puffed, and said every one likes the scented sheets. We asked them to replace the bedding with unscented bedding. To help air out the room we left the windows open and turned the fan on but the had turned the fan off sometime during the day while we were out Will never go back. Will never recommend !!'

A few facts may be in order here. First, your emails cautioned us to your sensitivity to "dryer sheets, air fresheners, and fragrances". We complied as we had earlier in the week for another couple with similiar concerns. They were very pleased with our efforts. In preparation for your stay, room windows were left open, no dryer sheets were used on the bedding, and as a rule we do not use fragrances or air fresheners ever. The following morning when you let us know your continued concerns of bedding odors, everything was washed again (with an extra rinse) per your request. Extra throws and bedding were removed from the room per your request. The door and fan to your cabin remained open as requested while you were gone untill later in the day when we had a passing rain storm and other guests started arriving home and touring the gardens near your cabin. At this point around 3;30 PM we secured the fan and closed your door for those concerns. Concerning breakfast, no sausage slices or hash browns were served on the mornings you were here served. We always have more of everything in the kitchen staying warm. Seating on the porch is available to those who don't want to sit with other people, and even served in room if requested ahead of time. In the end, we are very sorry that our efforts to accommodate your needs fell short. As a AAA Four Diamond Inn we strive to not just meet, but exceed all of our guests needs and have for over 18 years. We are still perplexed about what else we could have done for your sensitivity to odors. We are very sympathetic as Anne is very allergic to cigarette smells to the point of her sinuses swelling and burning. Perhaps your proximity to our gardens might have been an issue (fragrance, e.g lilacs and azaelas). Hope you will reconsider and try us again in the future.

I am loving this place. This is our first visit to Lovill House Inn but certainly will not be our last. The property is very well maintained and the innkeeper's are very nice and helpful. Our room is perfect. Very close to town but still very quiet and peaceful. I highly recommend this place anytime you are in Boone.

This place is wonderful! The Inn was beautiful, the breakfast was delectable, the room was outstanding, but best of all, were the innkeepers Scott and Anne. I made plans to propose to my fiancée in the NC Mountains sometime in early 2012. After thoroughly searching around the web and asking for recommendations, I decided to give the Lovill House Inn a call. I called the inn later into the evening on a Wednesday night and Scott answered. I told him my plans and from the beginning, he was very helpful and jovial. Quickly into our call, I knew this was the place. Scott and I concocted our plans and over the next few weeks, he helped me make our wonderful weekend happen. Later into a Friday evening, we arrived at the inn and Scott gave us a wonderful tour. During the tour, we were taken in by the beautiful house. He made us feel right at home and helped us to our room. We both loved the place right away. Both weekend mornings, Anne prepared a scrumptious breakfast. There were plenty of options and we left full and happy. Scott and Anne are incredibly interesting and have many wonderful stories to share. They encourage guests to meet and great. They treat everyone with respect and provide outstanding customer service. Both provided my fiancée and me with great advice and tips about the area. We look forward to our next visit back to the Inn for the wonderful time as well as to see our friends Scott and Anne. -Jack Michel (4/23/2012)

Lovill House Inn - extremely disappointing! Prior to making reservations I called regarding not using scented products - I was assured this could be arranged. Reservations were then made via the Internet with a request to not use dryer sheets, air fresheners, or fragrances. A reminder email was sent the day before arrival again asking, "please do not use any deodorizers, air fresheners, dryer sheets or other scented products in the Spring House during our stay. " The requests went unattended. The room was permeated with fragrance. After approaching the owners, Anne did remove the bedspread and blankets, which apparently were washed in scented laundry detergent. My bad for not specifically mentioning not using scented laundry detergent. But then again, it's not a big step to conclude that if dryer sheets and fragrance are an issue, scented sheets are too. As a result, I slept on the love seat with a blanket from home because of heavily scented sheets and blankets.  The following morning, I approached Scott and Anne again regarding the scents and the difficulty it causes me due to asthma. They offered no help or solutions. Instead, I requested the air bed/bedding be removed to help eliminate the scents, and the queen bedding be washed in unscented laundry detergent. I also requested the windows and door remain open with fan running all day, while we were out. Again, my request went unattended. While they did take care of the bedding requests, the cottage door was closed and fan turned off upon returning. Scott did inform me the door was closed due to other guests arriving. I get that, but the fan could have been left running to air the space out, as requested. All said, I felt my concerns about fragrance, which affect my health and well being were totally dismissed and minimized. For two nights I slept on the love seat with my own blanket to avoid the fragrance from the bedding. By morning, I was unable to eat breakfast due to feeling bad. Other than sleeping, my time was spent outside on the porches in order to get fresh air and avoid having to use a rescue inhaler. Scott and Anne never apologized or offered to compensate for the distress it caused. As such, I will never return or recommend. Ps - I made reservations at Lovill House Inn because of assurances about fragrances. I only stayed because it would have taken an entire day or more to find other suitable accommodations. Plus, I felt that perhaps the Spring House could have been aired out to reduce or eliminate the fragrance.

We acknowledge that you and your sister (Lori) stayed together with us for two nights in the same room (Spring House cottage), and that Lori's review precedes this one, and is based on the same in room experience. Most of our response to Lori applies to your comments as well. Here are some additional thoughts on your comments. We should be upset with what you wrote, but instead we are just hurt by the things you said. We did NOT use any air fresheners, deodorizers, dryer sheets, or any fragrances when we prepared your room as you requested. It was also aired out before your arrival as we do all all rooms. When you arrived it was obvious that your sensitivity was significantly greater than any other we have come across in over 15 years of serving the public. After we talked with you we went to great lengths to make things better (changing out blankets etc.) The next morning you shared that you had had a rough night, and asked if we could wash the linens in the room again with unscented laundry soap and again no dryer sheets - which we gladly did as soon as you and Lori left for the day. We used the extra rinse cycle just to be extra careful. We had offered up the idea to you if you would be okay if we left the cottage door open and the fan running to pull air through the room while you were out. You agreed that would be okay. After airing out for 5+ hours we did close the door when guests returned in the afternoon and were walking around the yard in the vicinity of your cottage. In addition the fan was secured due to a passing rainstorm and not wanting to moisturize the room. However, in retrospect we wonder if a major underlying cause for your discomfort were the lilac bushes and other nearby flowering plants in full bloom in the garden right outside of your cottage. If so, unfortunately maybe the fan and open windows brought in the fragrances. All we know is that on your first morning you thanked Anne for the efforts she was making to try and eliminate all fragrances and odors. Unfortunately we were not able to succeed and for that we are truly sorry...we certainly gave it our best shot. So it is important that if someone has issues as severe as you the cottage is probably not the right room for them. As an aside, we did discount the room from the weekend rate to the weekday rate to comp you for your troubles.

While the Inn itself was beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there- the innkeeper took it upon herself to keep my credit card on file and make illegal charges. When mentioning this to her she tried to defend her actions, and later hung up on myself and the credit card company who called her in order to resolve the issue. There are few things that can encourage me to write a review because generally things go as planned however, credit card fraud is somewhere I have to draw a hard line and warn other future customers. Please be wary of this issue and I encourage you to pay in cash if you decide to risk it. Boone is a lovely place to visit-- given the level of concern here I would highly recommend Air B&B where there are lovely local options and your transaction is protected through the third party--

The guests left clothing behind, and later called asking the innkeepers to mail it to their home address. The Innkeepers did as requested. In fact a 2nd trip to the Post Office was made to save the guest money on shipping charges was made. 15 days after mailing the package, and having not heard back from the guests even after two emails were sent inquiring about the package and check promised in the mail, and verifying delivery of the package by USPS, the inn charged the guests credit card on file that she provided for reservation and any room charges. Guest was notified of the legitimate charge made on their card. We take credit card security very seriously and have for over 15 years in business. We do not ask for a card to guarantee a room when the guest is on a cell phone. We are sorry that she feels the way she does and only wish she had sent a check promptly or communicated within a reasonable time with the inn.
