March is National Nutrition Month, when the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics reminds everyone to return to the basics of healthy eating. It is also the time of year when the Academy celebrates expertise of registered dietitian nutritionists as the food and nutrition experts.
If you're feeling forgetful, it could be due to a lack of sleep or a number of other reasons including genetics, level of physical activity, and lifestyle and environmental factors. However, there's no doubt that diet plays a major role in brain health.
The best menu for boosting memory and brain function encourages good blood flow to the brain — much like what you'd eat to nourish and protect your heart. A recent study found that the Mediterranean Diet helps in keeping aging brains sharp, and a growing body of evidence links foods like those in the Mediterranean diet with better cognitive function, memory and alertness.  For more information contact Love My Nurse Home Health or visit http://www.eatright.org/resource/health/wellness/healthy-aging/memory-boosting-foods to learn more.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women.1 While Americans of all backgrounds can be at risk for heart disease, African American men, especially those who live in the southeast region of the United States, are at the highest risk for heart disease.2 Additionally, more than 40 percent of African Americans have high blood pressure, a leading cause of heart disease and stroke.3 That's why this February during American Heart Month, Million Hearts® is encouraging African American men to take charge of their health and start one new, heart-healthy behavior that can help reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke. For additional information please visit the Center for Disease Control at http://www.cdc.gov/features/heartmonth/

The Holiday Season is rapidly approaching and as we begin to prepare we should not forget those individuals less fortunate than ourselves. 1 in every 5 Kansas children go hungry each day. The Kansas Food bank is organizing several donation locations this year including all local Dillon's Stores. Food is not the item that the food bank is collecting right now; toys, clothes. and personal hygiene products are needed as well. For more information please visit www.kansasfoodbank.org or stop by one of the donation collection locations to see how you can help!!!

Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women. Getting mammograms regularly can lower the risk of dying from breast cancer. The United States Preventive Services Task Force recommends that if you are 50 to 74 years old, be sure to have a screening mammogram every two years. If you are 40 to 49 years old, talk to your doctor about when to start and how often to get a screening mammogram. Are you worried about the cost? CDC offers free or low-cost mammograms. Find out if you qualify by visiting cdc.org or contact Love My Nurse and we will be happy to assist you in finding the necessary resources.

Today marks the 14th anniversary of the terrorist attacks against our country by those who attempt to destroy our freedom.  Love My Nurse wanted to give those who are currently serving, have served, or lost their lives defending the very things we all have come to love and cherish a very special thanks. Freedom is not free; we are all indebted to the individuals who protect this country every single day. Please take today as an opportunity to thank members of our armed forces for everything they do for us as Americans. This truly is the greatest country in the world and we owe it all to those who believe in defending our freedom.

Immunization helps prevent dangerous and sometimes deadly diseases. To stay protected against serious illnesses like the flu, measles, and pneumonia, adults need to get their shots – just like kids do. National Immunization Awareness Month is a great time to promote vaccines and remind family, friends, and coworkers to stay up to date on their shots.

How can National Immunization Awareness Month make a difference?

We can all use this month to raise awareness about vaccines and share strategies to increase immunization rates with our community.
Here are just a few ideas:
Talk to friends and family members about how vaccines aren’t just for kids. People of all ages can get shots to protect them from serious diseases.
Encourage people in your community to get the flu vaccine every year.
Invite a doctor or nurse to speak to parents about why it’s important for all kids to get vaccinated.
For more information please visit www.healthfinder.gov, www.cdc.gov, or www.lovemynurse.com and we would be happy to help.

Take Warning From Your Aching Back!
Lower back pain may be a sign your heart is at risk. Experts reviewed research on heart disease and back problems finding links between fatty buildup in the aorta-the main artery that supplies blood to the body-and breakdown of disks in the spine. They also noticed a link between blocked arteries to the lower back and back pain. People with high cholesterol and those who smoke also had more back pain. The problem may be that heart disease cause’s blockage of blood vessels to your lower back and spine. Take your lower back pain seriously and consult with your doctor about it today. For more information visit lovemynurse.com or contact our agency about getting set up with a primary care physician who can help.

Dear valued friends, customers, and clients;
            We at Love My Nurse would first like to start by thanking each and every person who made our existence possible. Without the continued support of our friends and family; we would not have the ability to service so many people within our community. To give everyone an update with our agency in March 2015 we became completely CHAP Accredited and fully Medicare Certified. For some of you who have been with us from the start truly understand what an accomplishment this it. I would like thank those who participated in our survey and were so gracious to allow a stranger into their home. As we now become more focused on growth instead of our certification I am asking once again for your help. The internet is an extremely powerful tool for those researching needs as well as home health care. Google is a very popular search engine used by those looking for additional information about specific services including those that our agency offers. What we want to do is spread the good word about us and the service we provide. Google has the ability for individual users to leave reviews about companies, websites, or other businesses you have used. We want our satisfied customers to leave a review on Google for others to see. It is a very simple process that takes around 3 minutes. I have included instructions on how to complete this process but if for some reason you run into difficulties; please contact Love My Nurse Home Health Care Services and we will be more than happy to assist you with this process. Additionally we are looking for volunteers who might even want to be videotaped stating the positive impacts that Love My Nurse has had on their lives or family members. Again if you have an interest in doing something like this please contact the agency. We want to again thank everybody that has been involved with us and we truly appreciate you allowing us into your lives. We hope everybody has a wonderful summer and God bless you all!
