We are taking part in a commercial mission to the state of Oklahoma, during which we visited Fab Lab Tulsa, a space dedicated to the fast prototyping of simple items.

While we are certainly excited to know that digital technologies are finding more ways to bridge the gap to manufacturing and industrial production, force is to admit that not all fabrication initiatives are made equal. And a lot of it, unfortunately, is caught in a gadget culture of state-subsidized activities sitting at the bottom of the value-chain.

"I (heart) fablabs. Kinda." are questions that need answers.
Tulsa, Oklahoma, recently inaugurated its first « fabrication laboratory », the Hardesty Center for Fab Lab. Located at the periphery of Tulsa (2nd city in Oklahoma state, with 400K inhabitants), the lab sits on 3700 sq. ft. (340m2) and boasts several high-end manufacturing and production pieces ...

i love it when +Aline Massouh writes for us. i like her voice.

Are cities brands? "Hell yeah", answers Aline Massouh. Much beyond the question of whether or not spaces should be branded, our extraordinary contributor comes down to the posture, the perspective, the context. "24. Collectivities" is all about giving to each and everyone the opportunity to define what it means to be "there". Read on!
To brand or not to brand. That is not the question. A city or country is a brand. There's no doubt about it. Brands. Cities. Countries. Indeed, well before the terms “country branding”, “city branding”, “destination branding”, etc. were introduced to the world of academia, cities and countries ...

when i mix chemistry with literary theory, famous peoples' quotes and intellectual property, you get this

Our latest instalment in the MosaiC HEC Montréal Summer School series, "29. Layers" was a long time in the making. Maybe even centuries. It says nothing that is in and of itself new, but it's a creative little package, that adds nicely to our "collaborate to create" mantra. And it should make you want to contribute unabashedly to our civilization's collective mess of ideas.
French noble and scientist Antoine-Laurent de Lavoisier, widely considered to be the father of modern chemistry, never actually wrote his most famous phrase: “Rien ne se perd, rien ne se crée, tout se transforme.” ("Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed.

Nothing is impossible, but only because some people will not take no for an answer and will try harder until they can prove everyone wrong. "23. Frontiers" look at the economics of dares: What makes humans react so strongly to challenges? And how does that obsession of the few to demonstrate courage and push the limits benefit the many who prefer their little comfort?
Individually, it's often hard to get people to venture outside of their comfort zone, to explore beyond their own perceived or self-imposed limits. This is often due to this simple economic calculus: a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Unless the potential payout of taking risks and ...
