Great information! I've been tracking my calories as part of a new workout regimen and using MyFitnessPal.com to do it (fantastic app/website by the way). This is a great nutritional exercise that every high school student should be required to do for at least 2 weeks. It opens your eyes to what you're eating and what different foods consist of. It's been very informative for me and I'm a life long health junkie who watches what he eats. Anyway, the program generates a pie graph showing your relative percentages of Carbohydrates, Proteins and Fats. Staying under 25% fats is easy, eating enough proteins a day to keep them over 35% is challenging but keeping carbohydrates under 40% is damn near impossible unless you prepare all your foods at home. Eat out once and you'll hit your carb limit in short order. We are a carbohydrate-fueled nation! Avoiding simple sugars is a major part of mitigating this dietary obstacle. I recommend sticking to complex carbohydrates (whole grains, brown rice) and even then, minimizing portion sizes.
