"Desertification is a fancy word for land that is turning to desert"  An even less fancier word for that is dying land. A lot of dying land on earth can lead to a lot of other things dying including humans.

On this video, the process Allan Savory suggests mimics the way nature did it before humans because corralling animals has its consequences. To solve a problem like desertification, we have to let nature take its course. We should let animals graze like how they used to. It's a familiar process to me. I grew up watching my grandfather with Carabaos. He would guide a group of Carabaos to trample the planting area until it is soggy enough to receive the rice seedlings. In later years, they had Carabaos pulling makeshift rakes to plow the fields. It's a very familiar process to us all. Carabaos == tractor. Though, it's more complex than just simple plowing. #sciencesunday

h/t +fan tai for the TED Link. Anyway, just spare 20 minutes. It's definitely good, and it might save us from an impending doom.

Here's the Q&A http://youtu.be/QxPNPXbVtfI Question & Answer Session following Allan Savory's presentation on January 25th, 2013 at the Fletcher School, Tufts University
