The strong foundation of your branding will make your career harder to blow down.

Ill huff and Ill puff and Ill blow your house down.

Well not exactly, but in this interview with +Loren Weisman from Artists Bridge and the Author of TAG2nd.

The interviewer was Lori Caulfield interviewing Loren for IdeateTV at The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.

In the interview, Loren talks about some of the basic foundational elements to consider when you are first getting your marketing in check.

The foundation is crucial today to avoid the big bad wolf of over saturation and the millions of others just marketing on the fly.

Fee Fi Fooooh my god Drum kit

Cause sometimes size does matter hahahaha. #TBT

I called this the Trifecta Kit or the Threesome.

3 snares, 3 Rack Toms, 3 Rides, 3 Hi-hats, 3 Crashes, 3 Splashes, 3 Cowbells and one booming bass drum.

Fun to screw around on, downright foolish to carry around.

Might be time for a little break

"The busy have no time for tears." -Lord Byron

But I think the busy can slow down and shed a few tears for mental and physical health now and then. I am slowing down for a moment for a good cry and a little rest. I think both will be a little healthy.

This past week, I spoke at the HMMA Social Media Symposium, spent four days and nights at Musexpo 2014 running around between the The Roosevelt Hotel , Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood and ‪#‎SIRStudios‬. Joined
Christina Fulton on her TradioV show, Playing it Forward with Christina Fulton, then headed to USC for Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.
I met so many amazing people and learned a great deal. This week was about promotion of the book, but it was also about connecting, networking, engaging and learning from the greats and those I have looked up to for years, to learning from an 11 year girl old that wants to be a drummer and was very determined to have my book.

I am honored to have had such amazing experiences while at the same time completely and utterly exhausted. With the exception of a few people I need to catch up with and some meetings that can’t be cancelled, I am going MIA, AWOL or what ever you want to term as disappearing for the next three days.

If you don’t hear from me till Thursday, I’m still alive, I just need a little recovery time and to slim down the schedule for a couple days.

A career by the numbers or actually letters

Only Getting the A and Z with out the B through Y, leaves you SOL.

You can listen to those that present the info on where you are and then explain in the most simple terms where you want to be or what needs to happen in a vague and loose way, but...

If you are not getting the details, the reasons, the proof, the concepts and the plans, then you are only standing at a starting gate with descriptions of the finish line and what its like to finish.

Make sure the people you listen to, pay, consult with or hire are giving you the information, the plan, the reasons, the details, the proof and the how to so you can run the race from start to finish and get where you want to go.

Money is not the answer if you dont have the answers on exactly where you are spending it.

#artistsbridge #money #musicbusinessplan

Its not all about the money, money, money…

Words from the Jessie J song, but also words that ring true when it comes to your career.

You might think if you had more money, you would be successful.

You would be wrong thinking this, as many out there dump hundreds of thousands to millions in to songs, artists and marketing of failed projects.

Just because you have the money to spend, doesn't mean you are spending the money the right way.

Its all about the plan, plan plan.

Where you invest, how you invest, how you track that investment of money and how it is spread across and allocated to all the required expenses.

Whether you have 1,000 or 1,000,000, plan the expenses and spend it wisely, otherwise you won’t see an ounce of success or penny of return.

Dont ask mom

Expand your reach when asking for reviews, opinions, testimonials. Dont just gather them all in your backyard.

#DAM #albumreviews #musicmarketing

Come on…D.A.M! as well as spending too much time working on reviews that are too local.

D.A.M. or don’t ask mom.

Yes, mom, your friends, your family and your local fans give you great reviews. And even the local papers, but when every single review is in a very singular location, it singles you out as being very centralized and not going anywhere.

Work to reach out to magazines, bloggers, radio, newspapers and online sites around the country and around the world when you are requesting reviews for your music.

You can reach out for reviews once a day for years with all the different outlets, websites and even music reviewers out there. It will also make you look like you are out there a great deal more as well as have a wider presence than just your back yard.

Reach, extend, expand and grow your fan base, your reviews and your presentation. It will showcase you in a way you want to be seen.

What do you want from social media and social media posting?

You hear all the stories about how to post this or how to share that as well as working for likes, follows, comments and yada yada yada elephant diaper.

But still, what exactly do you want from social media and what can potentially get from social media to benefit you, your band, your product or your business.

Take the time to think, plan, organize and create a system that is easy to fill in over trying to pull things out of your rear every time you log on to Facebook.

Everything isnt by the numbers, especially when you are bragging about social media counts to fans.

#musicmarketing #betercontent #avoidnumbergames

Your fans don’t need a count or want a count. Don’t give it to them

Continually advertising about your likes, views or followers can often come off weak instead of strong as you may be intending it.

Put out content to continually engage, consider, respect and draw the interest of the long term fan, the newbie and the people you are reaching out to.

Anyone can buy likes, views, fans, and friends. Even if you are growing at a really strong rate, keep that to your self, track it by the month and show that info to investors, agents, managers and labels, but get away from the whole “look at how many fans and views I have” over and over and over again.

Think of each post and piece of content as something that would be seen by someone that doesn’t know you and they are experiencing you for the first time. Is that the impression you want to leave with them. Then think about it from the long term fan standpoint, where you seem to only be concerned with highlighting numbers and not those that have been with you for a long time.

Take people in to account before you start posting your counts on social media posts.
