Syosset is a hamlet and census-designated within the Town of Oyster Bay. The community name is thought to be derived from an term for “place in the pines”. Hicksville Public Schools have announced that they will close for the Hindu Holiday, Diwali, in the upcoming school year, joining the Syosset, East Meadow, Half Hollow Hills, East Williston, and Herricks school districts in recognizing the holiday.

Stony Brook is a hamlet and CDP located in the town of Brookhaven. The history of Stony Brook is closely linked to that of Ward Melville, a local businessman who at one point owned most of what is now called the “Three Villages” of Stony Brook, the hamlet of Setauket, and the incorporated village of Old Field.

Stewart Manor is an incorporated village located within the northern part of the Town of Hempstead. The neighborhood is bounded by the Village of Floral Park on the east, the Village of New Hyde Park on the south, and Franklin Square together with the Village of Garden City on the west. Stewart Manor occupies a total area of only 0.2 square miles.

Speonk is a hamlet and census-designated place located in the Town of Southampton, surrounded by Eastport on the East, Northampton on the North, Westhampton on the West and West Hampton Beach on its South. As early as 1712, meadows in Speonk were leased to cattle owners from Southampton. The cattleman found it easier to construct small houses near the meadows to tend the herds.
