General IT Discussion  -

So, we run Exchange 2010 at work and all of my mobile devices are Android (Nexus phone, Transformer and Nexus 7). Currently I'm running Touchdown as my Exchange client. Has anyone tried anything else and had better experiences? Touchdown works fine, but I just feel the interface and menu systems leave something to be desired.

I run Touchdown because we enforce security policies on mobile devices. These include default lock times, security PIN required and remote wipe allowed. Now, I'm actually one of the Exchange admins so I know why we run these polices, but wearing my end user hat I don't feel like I need to give my company rights to wipe my personal phone or to force specific security settings to it.. Touchdown sandboxes Exchange mail so that the security policies are applied only to the app, not the device as as whole.

Overall it's fine. I just wish it wasn't so....2005. ;)

Hah, if we enforced 8 character password on mobile I think our end users would kill us. Higher ed IT is somewhat unique in that we normally go the "everything open but what has to be closed" picture route, versus the opposite for most business. We generally find a middle ground on security when possible.

Excellent pizza and one of the best cheese steak sandwiches I've ever had.

The sushi here is excellent. We used to be regulars at Chop Stix, but the consistently terrible service there made us look for a new sushi place. We found Taste by accident, but have been very happy with it. Normally we order several rolls and my wife gets one of the noodle bowls. We've never left unhappy.

This place is great. The steamed buns are amazing. There is no dining on Site so walk down from your hotel and grab some to take back.

I think the only time people review power sports dealers is when they come to complain, so I thought I'd give a review after a good experience for a change. I've been shopping for a new Ninja 300 for several weeks now. I'm in Gainesville so I was primarily talking to the dealers locally or in Jacksonville and Ocala. None of them had particularly good prices, so I was going back and forth trying to get a good deal. Someone on an online forum recommended Cahill's and said they didn't charge any dealer, freight or setup fees. Zephyrhills was a little far, but I sent and email just to see. The next day I got a reply from Charlie Ridgeway, the manager at the Zephyrhills store that was a full $500 cheaper than any quote I'd been given up to then. He even laid it out in the email with MSRP, tax, and title costs all clearly stated. I drove down the same day and picked up me new Ninja 300 ABS from my sales guy Jeff. I was in and out in 45 minutes with no hard sell of extended warranties or any other extraneous stuff I didn't want. Some people might argue that you can still do better than MSRP, but anyone that's done any new motorcycle shopping knows how hard it is to get some dealers to even go down to MSRP, especially on a new model bike. I'm completely satisfied with my shopping experience and will recommended Cahill's to anyone that's in the market for a new motorcycle.

We went for dinner on a Friday night and the food was excellent. Seating is limited, but it never felt too crowded. It's a little out of the way (unless you live on the East side of town like we do), but worth the trip. The food is mainly traditional Southern with a flair. I had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and cornbread; all three were excellent. Most things are a little spicy, but only enough to give a nice bite. They also have a good selection of vegetarian and vegan options. My wife had the pickled watermelon and tofu and she said it was delicious. We'll definitely be going back to try more of the items on the menu.

The food at Civilization is generally very good. My wife and I order the fresh Guacamole off the appetizers menu almost every time we go. They normally have good specials, but the sweet potato burrito or apple and brie sandwich are always good fallbacks. The service can be spotty, but I feel it's been improving in the last few months. You just come to expect a certain level of "whatever" from the hipster restaurants around Gainesville (The Jones, Maude's, etc). You have to weigh it against how good the food is and in Civilization's case the food is good enough to put up with it. Another major plus is location. There just aren't that many Eastside restaurants that have a good Vegetarian/Vegan menu selection. That's actually one of the prime reasons Civilization (and Tasty Buddha) are my families go to restaurants for lunch or a quick dinner.
