Preparations for the TransComm 2014 conference agenda are underway and we are putting out the official “Call for Presentations” to those wishing to present at the annual meeting. This year we will convene in Scottsdale, Arizona Sept. 28 through Oct. 1.  The Call for Presentations document, http://transcomm2014.com/downloads/TransComm2014_call-for-presenters.pdf, outlines the types of presentations we seek and the guidelines for submitting a proposal.

TransComm is AASHTO's subcommittee for communication professionals. If you, or someone you know, might be interested in sharing innovative techniques, best practices and/or emerging trends with the group, please consider proposing a session. The deadline for submission is March 31, 2014.

Really proud of my state DOT colleagues. Here's a nice story about the kind of creativity and innovation that makes states leaders in transportation reliability and safety regardless of the conditions.

Bravo and here HEAR I say!
Out nations' leadership, as in the selfishly spoiled and richest, car-centric,  western ones more than the rest, needs to discourage carbon abusive inefficiencies in transportation planning once and for all, and support public transit efficiencies whole-heartedly!

States are posting fatality figures on highway signs. After all, it is the best time to reach a driver, right?
In communications, it is always best to deliver messages where the most critical audiences are most likely to see it. For a transportation agency, that means catching riders and drivers with the ke...

Cool stuff.

With the change in weather don't forget about our Citizen Reporting app. It allows you to share road condition information with our Traffic Operations Center aka UDOT Traffic.

Here's an interesting opportunity to learn more about the use of Vine in transportation social media. AASHTO's Subcommittee on Transportation Communications (TransComm) is hosting a webinar Wednesday at 2 p.m. EST featuring a presentation by the North Carolina DOT describing its use of Vine. There will be a Q&A portion of the program, so please consider tuning in. Here's a link to register, https://www3.gotomeeting.com/register/298940854
NCDOT has been experimenting with Vine as an additional way to quickly and creatively communicate with the public via social media. Vine allows the agency to connect with its community in a quick, easy and informal way and is a great accompaniment to NCDOT’s other social media channels. Federal and state laws prohibit employment and/or public accommodation discrimination on the basis of age, color, creed, disability, gender identity, national ...
