Today on the blog: Weekend Favorites - We’re a little light on the links this week. It’s Spring Break. What can I say? I had plenty of time for looking at pretty pictures, though. Flipping lazily through my Instagram stream does not require much effort at all on my part. Today on the blog: Weekend Favorites - I’m riding a real high here tonight (Thursday). For one thing, it was 63 degrees and sunny this afternoon. That alone is enough to send me over the moon after the Winter That Will Not End. But on top of that, I found a great pair of jeans. Many of you probably know what a feat that is! For me, if the jeans fit nicely in the uh, posterior, region, they are too small in the waist. And if they fit in the waist, they are saggy-bottomed... http://ow.ly/2WSdXG

Today on the blog: TWiP: Off the hook and on the needles - I have a blanket to show you! I got caught up in other things and never blogged the finished stroller blanket. You know, the one I started many months ago and went through several iterations before I finally settled on a color scheme and design I liked? I will definitely have to write up a little show-and-tell for you next week. The blanket was a gift, but I subjected it to a photo shoot before I gave it away. F... http://ow.ly/2WAPsA
I finished crocheting a blanket, and then I got back to knitting a sweater-in-progress. It's been a stitchy week.

Today on the blog: The Clouds, the Land, the Sea - I’ve been feeling the itch for a new playlist lately, and while I probably could have put it off for another week or two, why not seize the day? After all, what better time to spend hours picking out songs and Photoshopping cover art, than when you are really, really busy with more important things? What can I say? Self-discipline has never really been my strong suit. All of the tracks on this one are new to me, and man... http://ow.ly/2W9PN1
It's a new playlist to listen to! All of the tracks on this one are new to me, and many of them are new in general. Some of my favorite artists have new albums

Today on the blog: TWiP: Signs of Spring - This week the mounds of snow in my neighborhood have begun to recede. The landscape is still largely white, but you can see scraggly patches of grass along the edges of the sidewalks and the driveways. It looks more like straw than grass at this point, but it’s a start! It’s been a very cold winter to the point that anything above the freezing mark feels warm and pleasant. It’s been above freezing most days this week, and we ev... http://ow.ly/2VWTZ7

Today on the blog: TWiP: Eventful April - The first week of April is always kind of a crazy time for us. This year it feels even more so. We got married on April 1st, twenty years ago, so it was a big anniversary. Eamonn’s birthday is today, so we’ll be celebrating later with a family party, and tomorrow is Easter, so another family get-together (not at our house, thank goodness) is in the works. Have I mentioned that I haven’t started my taxes yet, or that I broke a to... http://ow.ly/2WUD8e

Today on the blog: May Baby Blanket show-and-tell - As promised, here’s a little show-and-tell of my latest crochet blanket. This one, while quite small, took me forever! The actual crocheting went fairly quickly, but before I got to that point, there were so many times I made decisions about color and pattern only to change my mind and start over. This was what it looked like the first time I started it: It was to be pastel dots on a brown background. I started it befo... http://ow.ly/2WD2TJ

Today on the blog: TWiP: Saint Catrick’s Day - Aidan has been sitting next to me on my bed for the last hour. I tried to get rid of him when I started blogging, but the kid doesn’t take a hint very well. (“I got the hint,” he says, “I just decided to stay.”) It’s been a busy week, most of which is represented pretty well by this week’s pictures, so I don’t have much to add. This is a good thing, because I’d kind of like to be a vegetable for the rest of the night. As fa... http://ow.ly/2WgTqo

Today on the blog: Cats in Hats: sneak peek and giveaway - My teenager doesn’t make a habit of noticing the books I read. But the day Cats in Hats by Sara Thomas showed up on the doorstep, he was paying attention. The boy has always liked cats, and as he flipped through the pages, I could tell that he was beginning to feel some righteous indignation on their behalf. “A birthday hat? A banana hat?” “An Alien hat, Mom? Why would you do this to a cat?” Well, I think the an... http://ow.ly/2WdCN4

Today on the blog: Fun with vintage sheets, part two - Here’s part one, in case you missed it. Do you remember, I had made three out of the seven patterns I’d cut out? Well, I finished two more of those this week. Plus, I cut out and made four other patterns from two different sheets I’d had in my stash. That’s six garments. I think I’m sewed-out. And even if I’m not, the sewing stuff is going away this weekend because I’m getting really tired of looking at it all over ... http://ow.ly/2VYBHu
I sewed six more things from vintage sheets in the past week. Wanna see?

Today on the blog: There are no images in this post - I received some feedback this afternoon from a long-time reader. She wanted to let me know that my new blog design wasn’t working for her and that she was going to have to unsubscribe. That, of course, made me sad. While I have been working to make the site more accessible for those on mobile devices, the last thing I want is to break it for those who are still using older technology! I just got a new laptop, and I h... http://ow.ly/2VJUBp

The continuing adventures of an artsy-craftsy geek-girl
Introduction
Hello, I'm Lisa Clarke, and *Polka Dot Cottage* is my blog and associated shops. I have worked in polymer clay since 1996, but in 2007 began dabbling in fiber arts. These days, my blog is filled with sewing, knitting, crochet, and photography right along with the polymer I am known for. Not just a "crafty blog," Polka Dot Cottage contains a healthy dose of slice-of-life stuff, too, including anecdotes about the home I share with my sci-fi magazine editor husband, Neil and our two imaginative boys who call themselves Boring Office Guy and Flufy.

Thinking of following Polka Dot Cottage? Here are some circles that would be a good fit:
  • crafty
  • polymer clay
  • sewing
  • loom knitting, knitting, crochet
  • photography
  • slice-of-life blogger
