In this world of sit-behind-the-keyboard-cynicism and youtube-ish like comments... it seems so much easier to damn and demand, criticize and condemn.

And it is.

It IS easier to criticize, mock, and cajole for it WILL boost your esteem... momentarily. It's a mood lifter to laugh at someone else's misfortune, a drop of levity for your own broken soul. Yes it will make you feel lighter and better-than... until you fall.

Because you WILL fall.

When hurtful words cascade from your soul, you create a personal hell from which you cannot escape. What you send out into the world comes back to you... a boomerang of untold power. Unkindness acts in kind, for hurtful words said, also hurt the speaker of such things. A person with self esteem does not feel "good" putting others down. They have no need to do so. Truly power filled people know the boon of kindness, they know the way of such things.

Kindness begets kindness begets joy begets hope begets courage begets love. Kitschy yes... but so fucking what? The world could use a little more touchy feely bullshit.

It's the harder road to hold your tongue, harder yet to hold your fingertips. It's even more difficult to take the road less traveled and practice compassion. That under-utilized part of your self that remembers what it's like to be low dude on the totem pole.

I see page after page of "I'm a BITCH and if you don't like it that's too damn bad". And I think to myself... that IS too damn bad. Too bad that you have to define yourself as a bitch to defend yourself. We can do and be better than that. I'm going to change my status everywhere to "I'm a nice person and if you don't like it that's too damn bad." I don't have to be mean to be strong. True strength comes swathed in a courage tonic with a kindness chaser. That's where I want my mojo to live today.

We're all broken. Some of us are willing to show those scars in a flashes of sometimes cringe-worthy self disclosure. Perhaps because of those scars we can show greater compassion. Life is difficult enough. Perhaps it's time to contribute to the greater good than to go the easier, softer route.

Nobody likes easy girls anyway.

Google's Shared Endorsement has rolled out - check your notifications.
_How to disable this - scroll all the way down this post-

As +Mike Elgan pointed out today, these seem very similar to what Facebook has been doing, but they're very different.

Here's what you need to know:

You're in control: Your content is only shared when you choose, and shared endorsements don't impact who can see your content or activity.

To help your friends and others find cool stuff online, your activity (such as reviews, +1s, follows, shares, etc.) may be used along with your name and photo in commercial or other promotional contexts.

When it comes to shared endorsements in ads, you can choose whether your name and photo may be used to help your friends find stuff you love (and avoid stuff you don't) — you can control this with the setting at the bottom of this page.

The name and photo shown in shared endorsements are the public profile name and photo you have chosen on Google+.

If you DON"T want Google to share your information uncheck the box here: https://plus.google.com/settings/endorsements?hl=en

Wow, you could run a bunch of libraries for a year, with that much money, or feed a lot of people.

Introduction

The library is my home away from home. I spend more time at the library than I do at my house.  I love new technology, but working for the library, I can't afford to purchace new technology.  Good thing thing that I like to read about it.  :)
