"To learn to love, to learn to open, is one of the hardest things of all for us."

Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche on developing relative bodhicitta, and learning to love each other and ourselves.
Relative bodhicitta is how we learn to love each other and ourselves. The basic principle of bodhicitta is to rest in the fundamental state of consciousness.

In the fall of 2008, Charles Johnson wrote that "a black presidential hopeful can only become the leader of the most powerful nation in human history if he rises above the racially provincial and parochial; if his humanity, empathy, and compassion are strongly felt to be genuine by his fellow citizens of the world."
Even before he was president, Obama was a 21st global citizen, helping us to transcend parochialism, tribalism, and that most pernicious of fictions — race.

"Make the effort to separate the person you love from your projections about who they are and who you think they ought to be. Instead of holding them to your ideals, let down your guard. Open to them as they are. Release your agenda over and over."

Ken Jones' Four Noble Political Truths:
1. Individual suffering and delusion are socially supercharged.
2. The forces that drive history and politics are ultimately the same as those that characteristically drive the individual person.
3. There is a way out of social suffering.
4. We must cut the roots of our social problem, the roots of aggressiveness, acquisitiveness, and ignorance as to what we are really up to and why.
Buddhist practice is inherently political, so here are eight views on how to move society along the path to liberation from political suffering.
