Toxic chemicals are constantly threatening California #drinkingwater, but hopefully here is one that will be under strict limits if this proposal goes through. http://ow.ly/VqzJ30bl1xD

Did you know? Studies have shown that a traditional #reverse osmosis #waterfilter wastes at least 86% of its feed water under normal household conditions. Waste less with our #drinkingwatersystems. http://ow.ly/Oo3Q30bl1sL

It can be easy to forget that globally we face a frightening water crisis. And it can be hard to notice that even here in the US there are dire threats to our water supply right now. #filteryourwater #drinkingwatercontamination #waterfilters

One of California’s most important #watersupplies is melted snow. Each spring and summer, the #Sierra sends runoff down its slopes that recharges rivers and reservoirs, allowing crops to be irrigated and drinking glasses to be filled. #californiadrought

Get Those Nitrates Out of There!

You hear about lead in drinking water a lot in the news these days, especially after everything that has happened in cities like Flint, Michigan and beyond. However, we don’t often hear about nitrates in our drinking water. Though maybe not quite as common as lead, they are still incredibly dangerous to our babies and young children when consumed.

So why the push to learn more about nitrates too? Because your family doesn’t deserve to live with contaminants or the threat of nitrates in your drinking water. Over time, exposure can cause some pretty bad side effects for children, including death. Scary – yes. Impossible to remove – no. Our drinking water products are known for superior nitrate removal. Here’s a little bit more information before you act.

What are nitrates?

Nitrate (NO3 ) is a form of nitrogen. It is a natural part of soil and groundwater. When nitrogen fertilizers are used to enrich soils, nitrates may be carried by rain, irrigation and other surface waters through the soil and into ground water. Human and animal wastes can also contribute to nitrate contamination of ground water.

What are the dangers?

Exposure can affect a person’s health. Too much nitrate in your body makes it harder for red blood cells to carry oxygen. Adults tend to recover, but nitrates can be very dangerous for infants and some adults. Infants exposed to high amounts of nitrate may develop “blue baby syndrome.” This illness is rare, but it can be fatal. Infants may be especially vulnerable if they are fed with formula mixed with well water that has a high nitrate concentration.

What can do you to remove nitrates from your drinking water?

If a nitrate test shows levels higher than 10 ppm, you should find a safe alternative drinking water supply or filter your drinking water with an efficient and effective water treatment system. Find a system, like ours, which has been proven to remove nitrates down to non-detect levels. Give us a call and see how investing in a water filter in your home could take your drinking water contamination worries and send them down the drain for good.

United States’ #drinkingwater might have a #drug problem. U.S. health providers — as well as livestock producers — use millions of pounds of pharmaceutical drugs each year, and some of those are ending up in treated drinking water. #Antibiotics are a particular concern, because they could lead to antibiotic resistance. Wisconsin at Risk for Increased Nitrate Water Contamination

Many people in Wisconsin have unsafe levels of nitrates in their private wells and don’t even know it. Almost 1 in 5 wells in the Wisconsin area are contaminated with high levels of nitrates. How did they get there?

Nitrates seep into the groundwater. Farmers in the area use fertilizers that contain nitrate on crops, which in turn, ends up in the soil.

Nitrates are a compound made up of nitrogen and oxygen. They are commonly found on the foods we eat. Leafy vegetables like lettuce and spinach contain nitrates. Most people consume around 10-25 milligrams of nitrates a day.

If your drinking water contains more than 10 milligrams per liter, then you have more than the recommended safe level of nitrate in your water and must immediately stop consuming your water.

How do you know if your well is safe?

Most people rely on local treatment centers to remove or reduce the amount of nitrates in their drinking water. However, private wells are not regulated and many well owners are not testing their water either. It is important to have a certified lab test your well water for nitrates considering that unsafe levels of nitrates in drinking water can lead to some serious health concerns.

Small infants, pregnant or breast-feeding women and those with immune suppressing diseases are most at risk. Birth defects have also been associated with high levels of nitrates in drinking water, as well as an increased risk of thyroid disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. Installing a water filtration system to reduce the amount of nitrates in your drinking water is important so that you have clean, fresh water for your home.

Our LINX Drinking Water Systems have the ability to reduce nitrates down to NON-DETECT levels, which is huge! Most water filtration systems can only reduce them down to a certain point. Give us a call and let us help you decided which is the right water filtration system for your water needs.
