Christmas 2017 and New Year Appointment Times

It's already December and the festive holidays will soon be with us!

This year the clinic will be closed on the 24th to 28th December, the 31st December and New Years day. I'll be running a slightly reduced number of hours around the holiday period but sessions will still be available between Christmas and New Year to allow regular sessions to be maintained. These appointments are limited though so if you would like to make an appointment, please try and book in as soon as possible!

Herts Valley CCG Suspends NHS IVF Provision

Many of you living in the Hertfordshire area will be aware by now that Herts Valleys CCG held a public consultation over the Summer period regarding the provision of NHS funding of IVF treatments. You can read my original blog post about the consultation here (https://www.acupunctureandherbs.co.uk/lilys-blog/2017/7/19/nhs-ivf-suspension-in-herts-valley-ccg-more-may-follow).

Despite the feedback received in the consultation period, Herts Valleys CCG announced on 12th October that it would be suspending funding of NHS IVF in light of the CCG's financial position. You can read the official decision announcement here. This has been hugely disappointing news to patients and health providers alike. In particular this will be difficult news to those who have just missed out on NHS referral for treatment.

For more info, check out Lily's latest blog post about the decision and what you can do next if you're looking for IVF support in the Herts Valley CCG

Introduction to our Fire Cupping treatments

After a great response to my video about preparing granulated Chinese herbs I've released my second video about Fire Cupping.

Many of my patients have been asking me about cupping treatments. At my clinic I provide traditional Fire Cupping which is different to the suction cups that have become popular.

I hope that you like the new video and if you're interested in finding out more about Fire Cupping please check out my website at www.acupunctureandherbs.co.uk/cupping.

Research Update: Lily's research on Chinese herbal medicine and polycystic ovary syndrome now published in BMJ Open

Thank you to all involved in the ORCHID research study. I set up this research study in January 2013 as part of my PhD research to explore the effects of Chinese herbal medicine for polycystic ovary syndrome. A number of patients, members of the public and practitioners were invited to refer people onto the research study and I’m pleased to report that we had an enthusiastic response!

I remain grateful to all who were involved in referring patients, emailing, tweeting, blogging, handing out flyers, printing out A4 signs for their local GP and CAM clinics and health food stores.

The final publication has now been published in the BMJ Open and is accessible via the link below:

"I was trying to conceive and had unexplained infertility, and used acupuncture approximately weekly for a year with my first pregnancy and again for my second pregnancy. Just a big thank you, again, for everything you did! I got pregnant within 3 months of treatment after 2.5 years of trying to conceive. I also felt better in general and experienced decreased pain (due to pregnancy) after each visit. Wouldn't hesitate to come back if I felt the need. The service and results were amazing! “

Looking for a different approach to managing your pain?

Read about the experiences that our patients have had with receiving Acupuncture for treating pain.

"I've had persistent/frequent migraines and sought Lily's help to see if acupuncture would be beneficial.
Lily's care is exceptional and she brings an intelligence to her work which is refreshing. Furthermore, she's a good listener, handles issues sensitively and always addresses the problem. I have every confidence that she always does her best. She never, ever stops trying to work out the best possible solution for her client. She is consistent. All my sessions have been delivered to the same high standard - nothing is overlooked. (I have received acupuncture from a number of other qualified professionals and found that this has not been the case).

I have ongoing acupuncture as it's been a very helpful treatment for migraine. For me, it won't prevent it - however, it will enable the client, I believe, to manage the problem much better and more effectively."

CHINESE LUNAR NEW YEAR (春節/春节) - THE YEAR OF THE ROOSTER

Chinese New Year for 2017 will be celebrated on the 28th January and is the most important festival in the traditional Chinese calendar. With this in mind I thought it would be a great opportunity to write a blog post about what Chinese New Year means to me.
