High school Physical Science teacher in Polokwane (Pietersburg, to all the ex-pats), South Africa.
Part of the fun of teaching (the only reason anyone is in it, in fact) is the research and the production of study materials. The majority of my time is consumed with writing textbooks and compiling slideshows and movies for the monsters to understand physics better. :D
I love coaching hockey and cricket, and REALLY miss coaching athletics and swimming (but don't tell my boss that!). My greatest privilege in life is to coach this years' group of hockey boys. That is field hockey, guys - sorry, just realised that half the world see burly men in skates flashing across the backs of their eyelids at the word 'hockey'.
And absolutely NO cricket jokes, people! Cricket rocks - where else can you mortally offend someone and then say 'I was trying to psyche you out'? And then...wait for it...NOT GET YOUR FILTHY MUG PUNCHED IN!
The greatest obsession I have is reading, anything factual (science, history, mythology, archaeology), sci-fi or fantasy. I am not a fundi on any of the topics - more a Jack than a Master, but I really appreciate a well-written book. Of course, every fantasy fan is familiar with the great Sir Terry Pratchett, and he is my go-to guy for getting my head cleared of the lab fumes ;p
Love music and movies. Almost anything with a brain behind it is fun. Also slightly mad about comics (the few that you can scrounge here at the bottom of Africa! D:).
Don't get along with rude people, intolerant people and scaredy cats.
Homo Sapiens Internetus does not annoy me at all! ;p So don't be shy, TALK! Ermmm...TEXT!
I do have a (severely repressed) creative streak that I let out every now and then to play...if there is time.
To sate this jealous monster, I sometimes take photographs, doodle or write. The photographs and doodles I will share, the writing...I don't think so.
The love of my life has four paws and whiskers, and will often be found in my stream, be it mentioned or immortalised in celluloid, er...pixels? zero's and ones? whatever.
I will often speak of 'my boys', 'my girls' or 'my monsters'. These are my students, and don't diss my teens - they keep me sane! ;p
