Using Google Sheets like a flat file database for dynamic pedigree generation.
Rabbitry database and pedigree generator on Google Sheets. Free and suitable for small to medium rabbitries. I did this mostly to satisfy my curiosity as to how Google Sheets can be used like a flat file database. Enter a rabbit once, and the generations of the pedigree are auto-filled. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pme1IDBzsQtjtV8TdoyGntGE3k4w2Rvy_IrGr0oG22w/edit#gid=689680029

It should be:
=Query(Name!A:I,"select I WHERE A=3")

change "Name" to the actual name of the SheetA

☛Breeding Rabbits  -

My rabbit registrations are caught up to date. Every senior rabbit I have is registered. I mailed off several leg papers for Grand Champion certificates. At the show last weekend, I had the Registrar register 4 more rabbits, and when those are processed, I can get a couple of those rabbits granded. Registration and granding isn't necessary, but adds to the enjoyment of the hobby. Besides, the ARBA certificates are beautiful.

I have a beautiful senior buck in full show coat that I would love to breed. He attempts to breed does, but doesn't have that extra "push" to get the job done; I think his heavy coat deters him. I don't want to shear him until after a specialty show in June. So, I will shear and use his brother instead. The brother has even better wool, but not nearly as good body type. I think as long as I breed does to him that have good type and a common ancestor with good type, it should work out fine.

I suppose everyone uses professional rabbitry software, but just in case this is of interest...I use Google Sheets for keeping track of rabbit breeding dates, because then the information is accessible via mobile also. My spreadsheet automatically calculates the dates for palpating, nestbox, due date, and late date. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1n7E7mFCBF-FgedteSuZRcRmh8fi7509x9Hf7t6nDWO4/edit?usp=sharing

☛Rabbit Care  -

I went through the entire herd yesterday, giving the monthly doses of Ivomec. With Angora rabbits, one has to be vigilant for fur mites, which will destroy a coat before you even realize the mites have gotten established. I was very unhappy to find that one little junior doe had developed a case of mites while I wasn't watching; so, I had to scratch her off the list to take to shows this spring. She can grow her coat out and go show in the fall.

In the plus column, her littermate who had been chewing her coat (which is often a sign that mites are settling in, even before you can see the other signs) has stopped and her coat is recovering nicely.

I am sorry about the mites but so glad the other has recovered!   :D

I cared for an injured friend's rabbits for six months. Yesterday, another friend and I made the 5 1/2 hour trip to return them to her. There are a couple of her rabbits that I fell in love with and will miss very much. On the plus side, I now have a bunch of empty cages.

So great of you to take care of them for her! I know she is glad to have her fluffies home.

☛Showing Rabbits  -

I heard from the owner of "Holly" yesterday that she won 4 class at a rabbit show in Illinois on Saturday. This makes 5 Best of Breed English Angoras in the litter. One sister in Alabama (Mariah) owned by Jennifer Hornsby is a BOB winner, one sister in Florida (Marcella) owned by Shellie Ross is a BOB winner, the sister I kept (Muri) is a BOB winner, and the brother owned by Laurie Holden in Missouri (Drury) is a BOB winner.

They are from an accidental littermates breeding I did last fall. I forgot that the doe and buck were brother and sister; I was thinking they were half-siblings. They turned out so well, I am thinking about repeating the breeding. I think the key factor is that the sire and dam were each very correct rabbits.

I give it monthly, because by the time you realize that a rabbit has an active case of fur mites, the coat is already ruined. Ivermectin won't cause them to blow their coats, but fur mites certainly will.

☛Breeding Rabbits  -

During the winter, I was blessed with 2 large litters of what I think are exceptionally nice English Angora rabbits. The sire, Lawman, is homozygous black, but carries REW. So unless bred to an agouti, everything he sires is either REW or black.

The dam of one litter is a small tort doe that has very correct type, but slightly lacking in wool density. The dam of the other is a REW doe that has very nice wool density, but is lacking a bit in type. The sire, Lawman, has excellent wool density, and depth of body, but is slightly cow hocked.

These two litters are very similar to each other, and the individuals are almost clones of each other. I like the crimp of the wool in the REW doe's litter better.

I will show them for several months, and then next winter, will breed the best ones. I am wondering how best to breed them in order to continue getting their type and wool quality. Any suggestions?

I think I will try breeding one of the does to her full brother. I did a brother-sister breeding by accident last fall (I thought I was breeding half siblings, because I forgot they were littermates), and the result was outstanding, producing 4 BOB winners. It wasn't the inbreeding that was the cause of the quality, but that it was inbreeding two very good rabbits together.

I've been married to Eric since 1980 and we have a daughter and a son, who are both now adults and working in IT. We share our home with several cats and a dog. We have a few horses.

I am interested in people who wear cochlear implants, or who have a relative who wears one, or who are considering whether to get one. My son has had two separate cochlear implant surgeries (for the same side of his head) and is pleased with his. Somewhat related to that, I would be interested in meeting people who like myself, are carriers of the recessive X-linked progressive hearing loss gene.

The treatment my animals have received by Dr Deb and her staff was excellent. Dr Deb is very down to earth and treats pet owners with dignity and respect. Dr Deb is very knowledgeable and has treated horses, cats, and dogs for me. My only "complaint," if I have one, is that sometimes the staff seems just a little bit too relaxed about getting clients attended to and checked out in a timely manner. However, some clients may enjoy that. :-) ETA: If you have rabbits, you can take them to this clinic with confidence.

Way out in the country, way north of Manhattan KS, sits the RB Outpost store. It is well worth the drive, as it offers almost everything the horseman needs, plus some. Farmers find it a convenient and well-stocked source of various kinds of feed. For horsemen, it offers the industry leading brand of horse feed, Purina Strategy. Bulk purchases with discount can be arranged. RB Outpost has a large selection of western boots, hats, and clothing. It has lots of horse tack, including saddles and saddle pads and cinches and reins and bridles.
