A beautiful wallpaper and a clean, uncluttered desktop, and a little Rainmeter magic make this week's featured desktop worth a look:
Flickr user jerome_martinez_one hates desktop icons, and prefers text labels for his desktop, and this workspace takes that approach to just about everything, including how he launches applications.

tried rainmaker. User interface for configuring it is very poor. Couldn't get a stock desktop to work so I gave up on it.

I always wonder how many hours some people spend just playing around with their wallpapers/desktops … and how long it takes until they are bored of it.

+Alan Henry: Since my desktop is buried under various windows most of the time, the only customization I do is changing the wallpaper once every few months. ;-)

I spent a year in serious desktop modding addictions. It was around the time of the whole RocketDock/Apple fiasco. (because i remember rocketdock was pulled, but it was still 'available.' heh). I fell in love with Rainmeter, AveDesk and RocketDock.

Then one day, i just... stopped. Now the most i run is Fences. I use ALT+255 in naming the few VISIBLE icons i have (it is a blank character, but not a "SPACE". Remove icon names w/out an addon: first icon renamed ALT+255, second icon renamed to ALT+255 x2, and so on), and i have wonderfully minimal desktop on my EEE (now my main heh) and almost zero footprint.
