If you don't know what you don't know, how can you possibly improve? In any given endeavor, there are despite what some believe, standards of performance and being ignorant of required standards ends in failure and leads to mediocrity at best. So when self-assessing your abilities keep in mind what the stated standards are, not your estimation of what you think they should be. The more I learn it seems, the less I know. https://goo.gl/XWTPnI

If you don't know what you don't know you can never improve. So, how to you improve your shooting skills?
One skill at a time. Look for the areas of opportunity where you can shave off a 500 milliseconds, practice it dry repetitiously and then go measure your progress.

Tomorrow is our first "annual" Turkey Shoot and I'm excited. We've created a list of 10 drills that will challenge all levels of shooters. It's all Ron Givens fault but I'm loving it. All course fees will be paid out to the top three shooters.
The gimmicks are you will/may have to shoot all three of your permitted guns so, if you go to the range and shoot your favorite gun but never practice with the little, tiny one you always carry it could become problematic. Gun selection per drill will be determined by blind draw.
Each person wins points/chips for successfully completing a drill and the top three finishers get bonus points.
The 11th drill is not really a drill, it is called Texas Shoot 'Em, much like Texas Hold 'Em, a seven card game, your first five hole cards are determined by shooting a deck of cards from 15 yards. To play you have to ante up 10 points you earned. The dealer will roll four cards and after each roll players may bet. The winner could end up with the most points AND 58.33% of the pot.
When's the last time you took a class and made money?

Handgun Training: It's not like riding a bike

Simply owning a gun does not insure your ability to use it effectively, for fun or in times of stress.

In my life there are ‘have-to’s, things that have to be done, most likely now or very soon. On a second level there are the ‘need-tos’, things of a lower priority that could wait until later but yet still at some point must be accomplished. And then finally there are the ‘want to’s, things that I want to do, often these are lower on my priority list because there are too many of the others.

Most responsible people who shoot regularly know that the learning curve can be greatly improved when you take training from a qualified instructor rather than trying to teach themselves from youtube videos and articles on gun forums. And hopefully most people realize that we can certainly practice, practice, practice what we know but cannot train ourselves since practice is nothing more than repeating perfectly what you have been trained to do. - See more at: http://libertyfirearmstraining.com/blog/2013/07/07/7-questions-to-ask-when-selecting-a-firearms-instructor/#sthash.n0RJFSOJ.dpuf
