It's been almost a month, and we still don't have a fix yet?? Oh Google...
Authorship Glitch That Stole Christmas: Google+ Posts Update

If you've been following this Community you know that just before Christmas there was a major glitch in Google's Authorship system (confirmed to us by Google's head of the Authorship project +Othar Hansson). The glitch caused authorship rich snippets to disappear from most or even all of many user's search results. Othar told us they were working on a fix and it would take a "few days" for it to take effect.

It's been nearly two weeks now, and while many of us are seeing a lot of our Author snippets returning for content that was getting them pre-Christmas, not everything is restored.

In particular, Authorship snippets have pretty much disappeared from public Google+ posts, and still have not come back.

But yesterday I discovered something even more shocking. In my Author Stats at Webmaster Tools, I noticed that over the holidays there was a big dip in impressions for my Authorship content, beginning right before Christmas, but only jumping back up starting this past Friday.

At first I assumed that was just a holiday-induced reduction in search queries. But then I limited the date range of the stats to only the period of the drop in impressions. And I discovered that during that time my public Google+ posts had completely disappeared from Authorship attribution. In other words, Google wasn't seeing them as at all connected to my Authorship. This wasn't just a snippet glitch; it was a major loss of data.

Thankfully, when I look at this weekend, when impressions jumped back up to where they were pre-Christmas, my G+ posts are back in the listings. While they still don't show an Authorship snippet, at least Google once again is seeing them as part of my Authorship.

This is a sobering reminder that even mighty Google can have a huge disruption in its data flow.
