Bust out those worn guitar picks because Rock Band and Guitar Hero may be poised for a comeback tour.

I know Nintendo's had a bumpy ride for the past few years but is a live action show deal with Netflix that features Zelda the way to go? I offer my 2 cents on this idea in this VB piece.
Nintendo has said previously that it is working to license its properties to new companies. Maybe Netflix is one of them.

Is Nintendo coming to collect YouTuber's ad coins? Well, they're at least muscling in on some of this dough, and I think it has a better shot at working out okay than most others seem to think it will...
Nintendo is willing to let people on YouTube make money with Mario games, but it wants a taste of the action as well.

Good piece by @CNBCJosh about how the evolving Xbox One brand will intersect Microsoft's broader strategy in 2015...and I get a cameo @ the end.
When Microsoft reports earnings after the close, how its Xbox business performs could have an impact on whether the tech titan beats or misses.

I didn't expect Telltale to pull this out of their hat...er, storage chest. I assume this co-development deal was in the works before Microsoft bought Mojang. I'll be interested to see how the idea of a story mode intersects the vision of a community-driven development process.
Mojang has partnered with Telltale Games to create a brand new Minecraft game that will be narrative-driven. Dubbed "Minecraft: Story Mode," the series will be set in the world of Minecraft, but it will feature an original story that combines new characters with familiar themes and is driven by player choice. It will be a separate standalone product.

I just pub'd a new portable gaming forecast & I gave GI a sneak peek at a few of the findings. News flash: there's a lot of people out there playing games these days on smartphones and tablets!
Research firm expects mobile game downloads to reach 60 billion worldwide by 2018

Is Nintendo purposefully making too little hardware in order to create "free" media buzz? I discuss toward the end of this GB piece.
Nintendo has its reasons -- even if it looks like the company is leaving money on the table.

I've never really played SOE games but I suspect Sony sold off this PC game business mostly to shore up its fiscal year books.

Kind of a shocker. I figured with the popularity of gaming that sites like Joystiq were going alright...guess not. I suppose it's part of a longer-term trend that's deemphasizing banner ads, etc.

They got my title wrong but who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth? Here's my Squawk Box Asia clip from last night where I discuss the holdup with the #PS4 launch in China.
Issues with "getting approvals for the technology" could have caused Sony to postpone the PlayStation 4's launch date in China, says Lewis Ward, Research Manager, Consumer Gaming & Mobile Entertainment, IDC.

Seems like getting "VOLTE" to work well is a key to mobile MOBA's being ready for prime time. I'm still trying to figure out if the first wave VOLTE handsets/services will support live group voice chat though. Does anybody out there know?

I'm skeptical about VR but not because I don't think the tech is cool or the hardware is decent - I just don't think there's near enough good content/software to run on these platforms yet. Shout out to RA for writing it up though!
Samsung on Monday began offering what may best be described as the "alpha version" of its Gear VR headset, developed by Oculus, in the U.S. This Gear VR Innovator Edition works with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and is priced at $200. The headset comes with sample gaming and experiential content such as the dungeon exploration adventure HeroBound and the space shooter Anshar Wars.

Introduction
I cover video game hardware, software and services for IDC (mostly from a tech angle).Yup, it's pretty much Christmas year-round for me...and if I could just do something about all that pesky XL work and writing I'd really be able to rack up the XP!
Bragging rights
I made it into the top 2,500 Uncharted 3 global kills in early 2012, and pretty much became a missile-firing Silverback God in GoW 3 horde mode. I also have a level 9 Town Hall and twin lvl 2 x-bows in Clash of Clans - but all those payers keep crushing me in Master's league.
