Tomorrow (March 28) is the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival (yay!). The weather looks great and this spring has been ideal for syrup production. There's lots of great food including pancakes & syrup (of course!), sugar bush tours, crafts and much more. Wagon ride shuttles from parking areas or if you're from the region, pick up the bus at Conestoga Mall! A special treat for the kids would be the Waterloo Central Railway from St. Jacobs Market (not wheelchair accessible.)

Click the Festival Map link on the website to also get a full event calendar.

More info on the FB page https://www.facebook.com/ElmiraMapleSyrupFestival?fref=nf

Not that this is surprising given that the official view is sugar isn't bad for you. A little bit is just fine and even (in advertisements from the 50s) a "good source of instant energy". However, most north americans don't eat a little bit. Sugar is in virtually everything in one form or another, and if there's any doubt about that, look at rates of obesity in all ages, the proliferation of inflammatory diseases, and tooth decay.

Every Wordpress user will, at some point in their blogging adventure, be advised to use FTP to fix a problem. Whether it's the pull-out-your-hair-white-screen, or some other issue, FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is an important tool to know about.

Came across this download site searching for an FTP client; the version being downloaded should be checked for malware but that's hard to ascertain sometimes. FTP applications across the board recently have been hijacked & injected with malware stealing log in credentials.

This download site scans files for malware, viruses, etc. including FTP clients, and was pleased to see that.  I use WinSCP using a secure connection; what do others use?

How does suicide affect family and friends left behind when an individual no longer can find the strength to continue battling their demons? This film is about two moms who lost a child to suicide. #mentalillness

I read about this several years ago: the light from computer screens is disruptive. Back when it was CRTs there was concern about radiation and the peculiar blue light used in screens. Now science attributes problems with sleep, sight, and our health to the blue light commonly used in displays. All the more reason to take a break from the computer, smartphone, tablet, and TV; go for a walk, play with the kids, relax in the bath, or read a book.

Who'd have thought there would be a day for bananas? In honour of #NationalBananaLoversDay  here's a favourite in our house, especially loved by my grandkids. When I started eating paleo a few years ago it seemed treats would disappear from the pantry but I've found a few recipes that are yummy and easy including this one.

Sweetened with dates & maple syrup only (as well as the banana), they're a good choice for someone trying to reduce sugar intake as well as avoiding grains. Banana Lovers will love them!
