A project that I have been working on for Element 14 has been featured on the Raspberry Pi website. Well chuffed about this project as it's old school Blue Peter style equipment meets Raspberry Pi :)

Les Pounder is a big player in the Linux & free software community in the North West. I first met him a few years ago when he was running Barcamp Blackpool, Blackpool GeekUp, Oggcamp in Liverpool, UCubed (Ubuntu & Upstream Unconference) in Manchester plus Linux user groups and other events.

+Tony Hughes - the official NOOBS cards are very good (IIRC they are class 6 Samsungs microSD inside the SD Caddy). The RPi Foundation recommend them over class 10. A class 10 refers to write speed. Obviously the Pi possibly spends most of it's life reading during boot, and program startup then idling, so real world performance is comparable:
They were £4 each, but are currently out of stock (the profit goes back to the foundation):

I've just written up a short blog post to accompany the photos from the first Blackpool Coder Dojo

http://bigl.es/?p=474
Coder Dojos are monthly workshops where children can learn new skills and work together to understand the many facets of computing and coding. Blackpool is not very well know as a hub of tech activity and this is far from the reality. In Blackpool we have many different groups who meet to talk ...

Building a robot using Pimoroni's excellent Pibrella board.
I've also incorporated a demo mode that is triggered when you press the big red button :)
Well chuffed with myself.

I think the host board is more interesting in some ways because for this RPi module to be really useful someone is going to have to scale out what it connects in to.

Here are the photos from today's first Blackpool CoderDojo.
We spent a great day learning programming via Scratch, and how to build web pages using HTML & CSS.

I really love this approach!
Good luck to the team.

South London Makerspace is becoming a thing! But we need your help. To make the most of the short time we have in this "pop-up" space we need your support, and very quickly.

We've already raised over £700 in 24 hours but the more we get the better the equipment and facilities and if we still have money left over it will be going towards the deposit in our next, more permanent, space.
