Well, I tried to get Ubuntu running on my brand new Windows 8 laptop yesterday, and of course I ran into problems.  I got it installed, using the Windows installer, and when I tried to reboot the computer so I could boot into Ubuntu, it gave me errors and wouldn't boot up.  So I then tried running it in Virtual Box.  It ran, but performance was sluggish, so I uninstalled that.  Any advice?  I've heard about the Windows 8 boot protection (or however it's phrased).  I don't want to harm my Windows 8 installation.

As a long time VB programmer, I started to learn C# only to think to myself, "Is this necessary?"  There used to be a huge gap between VB and C# a few years ago, but VB has caught up.  Is there really a need to switch to C# permanently?  Thanks for any input you can give.

Happy Halloween!
