Even the youngest of children are sensitive to order and routines.
And that is why the Montessori environments are prepared with so much order.

LePort students on a one week excursion to Catalina Island. Rock climbing, snorkeling, hiking, and seeing marine life were a few of their adventures. The entire outdoor experience was so much more meaningful by having their science teacher with them; who, by the way, is a PhD! http://ow.ly/vW3iQ

New Montessori Preschool coming to Brooklyn!
Parent Info Event: April 28th, 7:00pm- 8:30pm

Three reasons to invest two hours:

1) It's your child's life, and the first six years are the most critical for his or her development. Choosing the right preschool makes all the difference.

2) It's just two hours to get on top of the preschool decision. You'll leave understanding whether the Montessori approach may be a good fit for your child, and how to find a high-quality Montessori program, from infancy to preschool and beyond.

3) It's an early mover opportunity. Our new campus in the Cobble Hill/Carroll Gardens neighborhood will open in late 2015. Our wait list is building but it's not impossibly long (yet!). You'll learn how to join our wait list and take advantage of some early opportunities.

To get on our interest list, RSVP, or learn more about our school, please visit LePortSchools.com/Brooklyn.

"If you watch a child of three, you will see that he is always playing with something. This means that he is working out, and making conscious, something that his unconscious mind has earlier absorbed. Through his outward experience, in the guise of a game, he examines those things and impressions that he has taken in unconsciously. He becomes fully conscious and constructs the future man, by means of his activities. ... He does it with his hands, by experience, first in play and then through work. The hands are the instruments of man's intelligence."--Dr. Maria Montessori, in "The Absorbent Mind", p. 27 http://ow.ly/vPwTt

Last week, the 5th and 6th graders at our Irvine Spectrum campus took a trip with a handful of their teachers to Catalina Island. The 3-day adventure -- with action from sunup to sundown -- included snorkeling, marine biology lessons, hours and hours of hiking, deer and bison watching, team building exercises, rock wall climbing, Ga-ga ball (what a game!), lots of good eating, and on and on. Taken on the boat ride home..

That's one of the great things about Montessori: children are free to, and often joyfully do, repeat activities well beyond visible mastery. Turns out that important changes in the brain happen during these repeated sessions, even when there is no outward improvement in performance visible--changes that make us more efficient at completing a task. It's always fun to see modern science validate Dr. Montessori's insights! http://ow.ly/vW205

Montessori teachers are emphatic about not interrupting their students' work during the three-hour work cycle. The primary purpose of the work cycle is to give students time to become fully engaged in an activity. According to research, however, there is another added benefit of uninterrupted work time: it satisfies the brain's need to finish what it has started. Knowledge For Life
Introduction
Our Goal: A Student who Flourishes as a Joyous Child Today, and as a Successful Adult Tomorrow

At LePort, we help our students acquire the essential knowledge, thinking skills, and strength of character required to flourish as joyous children today, and as successful adults tomorrow. Our unique program emphasizes the relationship between the academically challenging material presented in the classroom, and the breadth of experiences children have in their lives outside of the classroom. With the wealth of knowledge they gain at LePort, students are able to understand and delight in both the wondrous world around them and their burgeoning personal identity within.

Description
LePort Schools has been educating Orange County children since 2000, serving children from infants through 8th grade. LePort offers an authentic Montessori preschool as well as elementary school and junior high programs that offer rigorous academics, and a focus on personal development. In addition to other enrichment, we offer summer camps, Mommy & Me Montessori and Spanish immersion classes.

General Information
Our younger students—toddlers through Kindergarten—get much more than day care: they experience an authentic Montessori preschool. We even have an infant Montessori program (3-18 months) with professional, trained teachers and carefully prepared environments.

Our elementary school and junior high program (Grades 1-8) offers rigorous academics, and a focus on personal development. Small classes and expert, professional teachers allow us to motivate each child: we build on his curiosity, and add a personal touch.

At LePort Schools, we teach essential knowledge, and more: we prepare our students in their whole being for the adventure of life.
