Lift Bridges And Silo At Calumet River
https://www.artfinder.com/product/lift-bridges-and-silo-at-calumet-river/

This digital art is from my series, Steel Giants Of The Heartland. The series celebrates the industrial area around 95th Street and the Calumet River, with its bridges, electrical towers, and train tracks. They are powerful icons of a recent era, an era of boundless dynamic energy. These outsized icons now loom here in this gigantic, eerie, outdoor museum. I was drawn to the steel-laced, elevated Skyway bridge that provides a unifying presence running throughout many of my photographs.

Lift Bridges And Boat Shed, Calumet River

Chicago, City of Bridges: This digital art portrays the lift bridges across the Calumet River in Chicago. Many bridges were built along the Calumet River since its development in the 1860s. The Calumet harbor continues to be the region’s busiest port. Since land and water traffic both needed throughways, this has meant the design of movable bridges. Land traffic was halted when ships needed to clear the bridge area. The center-span lift bridges can be seen with the Chicago Skyway Bridge in the background.

Transformation Is true of this region on a symbolic level as well as being my artistic media. The vibrant colors in my photos represent the vital role this industrial hub played in developing the Calumet region.

Gargoyle at Cobb Gate, #UChicago, details at
https://www.artfinder.com/product/gargoyle-at-cobb-gate/

Cobb Gate is a neo-Gothic archway at the northern entrance to the Main Quadrangle of the University of Chicago campus. The gate, complete with gargoyles, was donated by Cobb to the university in 1900. According to university lore, gargoyles at the bottom of the gate represent first-year students, second and third-years climb the gate, with this large griffin at the top representing fourth-year students.

My painting “Hawaii Daydreaming”
https://www.artfinder.com/product/hawaii-daydreaming/

In this portrait a woman looks back with pleasure on her trip to Hawaii. The painting features vibrant primary colors. Her brightly colored yellow and blue blouse is adorned by a lei of red and pink flowers. Her head and shoulders are painted, against a deep blue background. In style, this is an abstract, figurative painting.

This exhibit of art by Kerry James Marshall is a must-see!
https://mcachicago.org/Exhibitions/2016/Kerry-James-Marshall

“Born before the passage of the Civil Rights Act, in Birmingham, Alabama, and witness to the Watts riots in 1965, Marshall has long been an inspired and imaginative chronicler of the African American experience. Best known for his large-scale paintings featuring black figures, defiant assertions of blackness in a medium in which African Americans have long been “invisible men,” Marshall’s interrogation of art history covers a broad temporal swath stretching from the Renaissance to 20th-century American abstraction. He critically examines the Western canon through its most canonical forms: the historical tableau, landscape, and portraiture.”
