Leave Yourself Wanting More

What could you do less of?
By Leo Babauta. I think most of us have a tendency to do as much as we possibly can. But doing less might be better. When we go to a great restaurant, we want to try all the dishes, eat as much of the delicious food as we can. And we leave overstuffed, sometimes painfully so, and our waistlines ...

Pare Down with the Declutter Habit.

Get started today!
By Leo Babauta. It's a fact of life that without constant vigilance, clutter creeps up in our lives, accumulating into piles and closets and drawers and shelves so that it can overwhelm us. One of the best things I've done is simplify my life and pare down the clutter.

The Source of Contentment.

Who are you?
By Leo Babauta. My friend Jesse sent me this video of Henri Nouwen (worth a watch) that talked about three sources of happiness that are very unreliable. They're based on different ways to answer the fundamental question, “Who am I?”: What I do: If we are what we do, then when we do good things, ...

What You Can Say Instead of "I Don't Feel Like It"

You got this.
By Leo Babauta. Too often we let ourselves be ruled by our moods — which leads to procrastination, a lack of exercise, eating poorly, constant online distractions, and more. Mood is a poor indicator of whether you should do something. Consider the following examples: You want to write a book, ...

The Girl Who Saw Through the Illusions.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
By Leo Babauta. The girl was at work when one of her coworkers said something demeaning about her work, and she immediately got upset, felt defensive, and thought all day about how the coworker was wrong and how she could prove it to him. At home, her boyfriend left his dirty dishes in the sink ...

The Futility of Always Pushing Myself to Be More.

Do you do these things too?
By Leo Babauta. For the last 8 years, I've had an internal struggle: between wanting to improve myself, and wanting to be content. To be honest, I haven't completely figured out how to resolve that struggle. But I'm working on it. What's the root of this struggle? Well, when I started Zen Habits ...

Hey Jonny. You think???? Of course each person is different, in every way. Everyone is unique and so are their lives and experiences. You have a long way to go if you still only "thinking" this shit mate.

You’re Not Doing Life Wrong.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
By Leo Babauta. There's an everpresent underlying feeling that most of us have that we could be doing things better. That we're not sure how to live life. That we're doing things wrong. This leads us to try to optimize, to try to improve, but also to feel bad, to seek comfort and distraction, ...

This post couldn't have had better timing. Lately I've been contemplating my life, where it is heading, and whether I'm 'missing out' in some way. I am rather unconventional, in that I don't really covet material wealth or adhere to social propriety. And, I'm usually cool with it -- that' just who I am. But, sometimes I get that anxious feeling in my gut, and I start wondering what 'would be' if I do what everyone else is doing. Your post really hit home for me. Thanks for taking the time to write it.

P.S. I read most of your posts, and I have to agree with the comments above: the short posts are usually much more effective in conveying your point. Though, I understand that sometimes there needs to be a lead-in story or anecdote to get the point across.

Getting Lost in Just Doing.

Have you done this?
By Leo Babauta. Sometimes we get discouraged about ourselves: we think, “I'm not doing a good job, I'm not disciplined, I'm not good enough, I suck.” Or something like that. What can we do? Give ourselves a pep talk? (Sure!) Find something to appreciate about ourselves that's awesome? (Yes!) ...

It's a terrific refrain in your blog posts about just 'doing' (& your take is spot on!) which reminds me of this: http://fdi.sasociety.in/cms/index.php/fdi/article/175_Skill_in_Action_A_Yogic_Perspective I wanted to share it with you as a thank you for the blog! 😊

Savor Discipline: Merge the Interests of Your Future & Present Selves.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
By Leo Babauta. There's a conflict that often happens when we try to be disciplined about something: I want that cinnamon roll right now, but I know I'll regret it later. Which interest should win out: your future self, who doesn't want you to get fat and unhealthy … or your present self, ...
