Considering the recent developments, this article from 2007 is worth re-posting. Quite concerning.

Interesting.

This is what happens to your body within one hour of drinking a can of soda.

10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system, which is 100 percent of your recommended daily intake. You'd normally vomit from such an intake, but the phosphoric acid cuts the flavor.

20 minutes: Your blood sugar skyrockets. Your pancreas attempts to maximize insulin production in order to turn high levels of sugar into fat.

40 minutes: As your body finishes absorbing the caffeine, your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, and your liver pumps more sugar into the bloodstream. Adenosine receptors in your brain are blocked preventing you from feeling how tired you may actually be.

45 minutes: Your body increases dopamine production, causing you to feel pleasure and adding to the addictiveness of the beverage. This physical neuro response works the same way as it would if we were consuming heroin.

60 minutes: The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and zinc in your lower intestine, which boosts your metabolism a bit further. High doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners compound this effect, increasing the urinary excretion of calcium. The caffeine’s diuretic properties come into play. (You have to GO!) Your body will eliminate the bonded calcium, magnesium and zinc that was otherwise heading to your bones. And you will also flush out the sodium, electrolytes and water. Your body has eliminated the water that was in the soda. And in the process it was infused with nutrients and minerals your body would have otherwise used to hydrate your system or build body cells, bones, teeth.

The sugar crash begins. You may become irritable and/or sluggish. You start feeling like crap. Time to grab another?

What a picture: Coke for a child? What's missing in the post is that the sugar level after the crash is lower than before drinking.

Just to clarify: security updates for Oracle Linux are free to download - you don't need a subscription or anything. The system is pre-configured to download errata from the public yum service.

GTKpod on Ubuntu 12.04 is te suck. Fellow Linux users, what do you recommend for syncing music to your iPods?

Christian: Nice idea, but my nano 4G is unfortunately not supported :(

A VirtualBox VM running Windows came to the rescue. Rhythmbox also failed to initialize the device.

Larry and David, why is your statement so strikingly similar to the one that Mark Zuckerberg posted here? https://www.facebook.com/zuck/posts/10100828955847631

Well, if you and a bunch of other companies in the same business were accused of something you knew would be hugely damaging to all of you if true, of course you'd coordinate a damage-control response, even if you are otherwise competitors. This is the case whether or not the accusations are true. They're not idiots.

This sounds like a fun event to attend, if you're into quadrocopters and tinkering.

Putting Android on a friend's HTC HD2 turns out to be more difficult than I thought. It seems to require a lot of Windows-only utilities, and Windows in VirtualBox does not seem to work. Also, which of the gazillion of Android builds is the right one? This is even worse than having to choose between a PC Linux distro.

FWIW, I actually managed to install CM9 on the HD2. I had to resort to using Windows, but the result is impressive! The first test booting Android from SD card was not that exciting (way too slow), but after installing it in the Flash ROM made all the difference. I was kind of sad having to give the phone away again afterwards :)
