It represents the fourth graphics API aiming to offer this kind of control and the performance gains that come with it. AMD's Mantle, Microsoft's DirectX 12, and Apple's Metal were all developed with similar goals in mind. However, these are all platform limited in one way or another; Mantle only works with AMD GPUs, DirectX 12 only works in Windows, and Metal only works in iOS. Vulkan will span both GPU and operating system vendors, continuing in the footsteps of the cross-platform, vendor-neutral OpenGL before it.
Coming later this year, the new API promises efficiency and performance.

Why is it okay for an ambitious lawyer to say, “I just want to be a lawyer” and not for an ambitious programmer to say, “I just want to be a programmer?”

Was really hoping this would be an answer to live TV streaming, but the live part requires a cable subscription. For everyone else there is free access to the back episodes -- if you don't mind watching a ~60s commercial first.

Very cool. +m. shawn robar you've got to try this.

What a good news! Last Chrome OS Dev update gives unfearful users like you the ability to unlock your Chromebook only when your phone is within arm’s reach.

Here's how it works for now. First, enable the experimental flag "Enable Smart Lock proximity detection" at chrome://flags/#enable-easy-unlock-proximity-detection. Then, restart your chromebook and access your Chrome Settings. Set up Smart Lock¹ if it's not already done and see the checkbox there you can use to toggle the range between 30 feet (9m) and 1 foot (30cm).

On a personal note, I really enjoy this when I combine phone + watch + chromebook.

If you're looking for what to do this week-end, I'd recommend you read "Contributing to Chromium: an illustrated guide" written by +Monica Dinculescu at http://meowni.ca/posts/chromium-101/

From how to checkout/build Chromium to how to contribute to its development, you'll basically learn everything you need to know to commit successfully your first patch. And as she says: everyone IS nice and helpful so don't be afraid to ask questions.

As a Mac only household now I play a lot of older games with friends via boot camp. And they're mostly older favorites like R6 Las Vegas 2, Borderlands 2 and then games like Insurgency which are built on the HL2 engine. These games run great on my stock video card and with a fair bit of RAM. I definitely relate to the enjoying playing older games, especially with Steam sales.

Great meal. Advised by our hotel staff. Although they didn't have porcini mushrooms which I thought were in season. That removed many menu items. Hostess was a bit pushy about having one hour to eat because we didn't have a reservation.

Tip, buy your tickets at the Palentine Hill entrance. The line took minutes instead of hours at the Colosseum ticket shop.

Unique presentation of some dishes. Food came very fast. Chose to exit quickly when all the smokers lit up in the enclosed patio at the end of the meal.
