Crimson Peak Filming in Kingston's Market Square

Broke away from work to checkout the set of the movie  #CrimsonPeak in #Kingston #YGK. Makes you wonder how close this is to what our market square looked 100 years ago.

This was our first movie rental from Google Play Movies and played with Chromecast onto our projector. $6 for the HD version.

A pretty good experience overall. The movie streamed in "HD" with 5.1 surround sound. I question a bit how much video compression is happening because it doesn't look nearly as good as a Blu-ray rental on the same 720p screen. The quality I'd say is on par with Netflix streams, but much much better than iTunes rentals.

I've rented Walking Dead episodes from iTunes previously and the video quality was garbage; noticeably poor frame rate, lip sync issues, limited to stereo sound and overly aggressive video compression of "HD" content. I made that mistake twice, not again.

The ability to impulse rent new releases on Google Play Movies, i.e. content not yet on Netflix, makes this a pretty solid choice. Will rent again.

I guess so! On the other hand 6 to buy is kind of cheap. It is 13 or higher in the U.S.

Boom. Asciidoctor generating great looking books for mobile readers.

Screenshots from our mobile-first redesign of NFJS, the Magazine (http://nofluffjuststuff.com/home/magazine_subscribe) in EPUB3, MOBI and PDF formats. The magazine is produced from articles written in AsciiDoc format using only tools from the +Asciidoctor ecosystem. These tools are being integrated into an Asciidoctor sub-projected named "editions" for the purpose of producing publications such as this one.

These screenshots were taken on a Nexus 7 2012 Android tablet. The eBook formats of the magazine are responsive and scale to any device size.

The fonts used in the magazine are as follows:

M+ 1p - headings, callout numbers
Noto Serif - body copy
M+ 1mn - source code and inline literals
Font Awesome - admonition icons

Cool, a scene for #CrimsonPeak   horror movie is being shot in Kingston next week.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2554274/

To turn the area into an early 20th century city, everything 21st century has had to be removed, she explained.

The actual filming on Monday will stretch along King Street so that means removing the traffic lights at King and Johnson streets on the weekend. King Street will be closed from Brock Street to William Street for the duration.

Traffic signs have to come down, as well as the too-modern street lights. Benches, garbage cans and lighting standards must also disappear.

On using #AsciiDoc + Git for documentation.

Document like a programmer

We would often ask questions like: "Who changed this paragraph?", "Was this section changed since last release or did we not update it yet?" or "Why was this section removed?". Before we were't able to answer those kinds of questions. Exactly the same questions we were asking about our code 10 years ago before we first checked it in to GIT. Doing the same with our documents provide us full history of all changes and even allows us to revert them individually after days or weeks. I can't begin to describe how liberating that feels.

Oh boy, this looks awwwwwwwwesome! Ever since seeing live diff marks in Netbeans I felt Vim desperately needed this. Wish granted. Must try this.

As someone who lives in vim (email, diffs, code, etc.), and relies on git for everything, this plugin is wonderful.

If you don't use git, and are stuck with those "other" vcs's, there's https://github.com/mhinz/vim-signify which supports everything else.

Yay, Rdio now works with Chromecast!

Your night, curled up on the sofa, just got a little bit better. Starting today, +Crackle and +Rdio  work with #Chromecast , so you can watch Crackle’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee on your TV or fill your living room with music using Rdio.

As always, you can stay up to date about apps that work with Chromecast in your country at chromecast.com/apps.

Great meal. Advised by our hotel staff. Although they didn't have porcini mushrooms which I thought were in season. That removed many menu items. Hostess was a bit pushy about having one hour to eat because we didn't have a reservation.

Unique presentation of some dishes. Food came very fast. Chose to exit quickly when all the smokers lit up in the enclosed patio at the end of the meal.
