Left-hander: (🇬🇧) Jack Hunter Spivey @jackhstt - When London won the Olympic and Paralympic bid in 2005, 10 year old Jack was playing table tennis in a youth club in Widnes and decided that he wanted to play in the Paralympic Games in London. He was invited to his first GB Development camp at the age of 11.

Although he just missed out on selection for London, he experienced the atmosphere of the Games through the BPA’s Paralympic Inspiration Programme and then set his sights on Rio 2016.

Jack is the only player ever to win the Junior, Senior and Open British titles in the same year and competes in non-disabled table tennis at county level as well as competing with the GB Para team. A win against the world number four in the Lignano Master Open in Italy in March 2013 was the start of a successful season for Jack in which he won nine medals, reached his first singles final and represented GB in the European Championships in Italy, performing with great credit on his major championship debut.

In 2014 Jack continued to progress and a number of good results, including a silver medal in the Slovakia Open, took him to a career high world ranking of nine and earned him a trip to China for the World Championships in September. He acquitted himself well, progressing from his group and playing well against the experienced Korean Kiyoung Kim in the last 16 despite losing 3-1.

Jack began 2015 with bronze in Italy and then took team gold in Slovakia with Norwegian Paralympic champion Tommy Urhaug followed by silver in the men’s class 4-5 singles in Korea. In the European Championships he reached the quarter-finals of men’s class 5 singles but was disappointed to lose 3-0 to the World number six from Serbia Mitar Palikuca.

Jack went to Beijing in November for the China Open needing some good results to keep his dream of competing in Rio alive and he responded by taking silver in the singles - a performance that secured his qualification for the 2016 Paralympic Games where he failed to progress beyond the group stages.

Liverpool fan Jack has inspired his younger sister to start playing table tennis, while his older brother designs computer games.

Koko the Gorilla is Left-handed.

Hanabiko "Koko" (born July 4, 1971) is a female western lowland gorilla who is known for having learned a large number of hand signs from a modified version of American Sign Language (ASL).

Her instructor and caregiver, animal psychologist Francine "Penny" Patterson, reports that Koko is able to understand more than 1,000 signs of what Patterson calls "Gorilla Sign Language" (GSL). In contrast to other experiments attempting to teach sign language to non-human primates, Patterson simultaneously exposed Koko to spoken English from an early age.

Reports state that Koko understands approximately 2,000 words of spoken English, in addition to the signs. Koko's life and learning process has been described by Patterson and some of her collaborators in a number of books, peer reviewed articles, and on a website.

My Left Foot -
A story by Publisher, James S. Borthwick

In 1993, after undergoing my 3rd amputation resulting in the amputation of my right leg, below the knee (due to *Type 1 Diabetes), I was transferred to a Rehabilitation Unit, just off the main hospital I was staying at. I was being shown around the facility, which I had to navigate with a wheelchair. The entire ward was quiet, and patients were in their rooms. I was offered a cup of coffee in the dining area, and just got settled at a table, when a nurse’s aide approached me.

She had emerged from a room adjacent to the kitchen/dining area, which was the television room. She approached me and offered me the latest video they had, and indicated that I could watch it if I wanted to. The video she offered me made me look at her and wonder if she was trying to be funny with me. Of all the videos there are in the world, this aide asked me if I wanted to watch, ...

”My Left Foot”! (The Story of Christy Brown is a 1989 biographical drama film)

I showed her my reason for being there and after she apologized profusely, we both laughed. Pure irony.

Billy the Kid was NOT “The Left Handed Gun”!

Billy the Kid, born Henry McCarty; also known as William H. Bonney (1859 – July 14, 1881) was an American Old West gunfighter who participated in New Mexico's Lincoln County War. He is known to have killed 8 men.

As usual, the spread of left-handed misinformation shows its ugly head again, says's Publisher, James S. Borthwick.

The image on the left (below) is the un-retouched original tintype of Billy the Kid, c. 1880. A tintype, also known as a melainotype or ferrotype, is a photograph made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet.

One of the few remaining artifacts of Billy's life is an iconic 2-by-3-inch (5.1 cm × 7.6 cm) ferrotype taken of Billy by an unknown portrait photographer.

The photo shows Billy wearing a vest over a sweater, a slouch cowboy hat and a bandanna around his neck while holding an 1873 Winchester rifle with the weapon's butt resting on the floor.

For many years, this photo of Billy was the only one scholars and historians agreed was authentic. The ferrotype survived due to a friend of Bonney, Dan Dedrick, keeping the image after the outlaw's death.

The image was copied several times and appeared in numerous publications during the 20th century. In June 2011, the original was bought at auction for $2.3 million by Billionaire Businessman William Koch.

The image, which had been copied and published in various ways over the years, showed Billy with his holstered Colt revolver on his left side. This fueled (mistakenly) the commonly held belief that the gunman was left-handed.

Misinformation Alert

This belief, however, did not take into account that the method used to make the original ferrotype was to use metal plates that produced reverse (mirror) images.

As a result, the photo showed Bonney's pistol on his left side, misleading historians to believe he shot with his left hand.

In 1954, Western historians James D. Horan and Paul Sann wrote that Bonney was "right-handed and carried his pistol on his right hip". The opinion was confirmed by Clyde Jeavons, a former curator of the National Film and Television Archive.

The true image of Billy the Kid is on the right. He's clearly a right-hander!

Mystery solved.

If the media would just do a little more research they would find the truth instead of perpetuating "Left-handed Misinformation" simply because they didn't ask an expert, says Mr. Borthwick.

"The Left Handed Gun" is a 1958 American western film and the film directorial debut of Arthur Penn, starring Paul Newman as Billy the Kid and John Dehner as Pat Garrett. Just about everything about this is wrong. Paul Newman had one thing in common with Billy the Kid, neither was left-handed!

The entire concept of "The Left Handed Gun" is a farce, a misnomer. This along with a right-handed actor playing the role of a left-hander is completely wrong. Ironically a right-handed actor was actually portraying a right-handed outlaw. By all means make a movie about "Billy the Kid", but the whole left-handed (proper spelling) aspect is incorrect.

They should've called it something else, rather than looking foolish forever more. Failing to do proper research contributes to “Left-handed Misinformation”.

The screenplay was written by Leslie Stevens from a teleplay by Gore Vidal, which he wrote for the television series The Philco-Goodyear Television Playhouse 1955 episode "The Death of Billy the Kid", in which Newman also played the title character. Vidal revisited and revised the material in 1989 with a TV-movie entitled Billy the Kid. *(Notice the posters below: Saved a few bucks on design)

Vidal made the same mistake AGAIN because he neglected to thoroughly research what he was writing about. This is contrary to what has been said about him, "It is said that Vidal occasionally returned to the movie business, and wrote "historically accurate" teleplays and screenplays about subjects important to him".

Historically Accurate!? If he'd ask ANY questions about the camera, it would've revealed the real truth about the tintype. He didn't research enough. Lazy. Overrated. An inaccurate account, says Mr. Borthwick.
