The nominations have been tallied and the voting is open for the 2014 Forensic 4cast Awards. But what do you know about the nominees? Why should you vote for them? What great feats have they accomplished in the last year? I'm glad you asked… Quotes from submissions are used where appropriate.

This is why bureaucratic governments suck!
As a few of you will be aware I've been having some legal issues as of late. It seems as if there are people in the US that simply don't want me here. As an immigrant to the US each person has the option of applying for citizenship. When you can do this depends on your individual situation.

The Snowden NSA Leaks: The Story So Far
The number of revelations from the Snowden documents continues to rise. Some are more disturbing that others. I felt it was time to post a summary of thing that hit on the highlights (or are they lowlights?) of what has been shared thus far. The NSA intercepts and logs the metadata of phone ...

For the longest time I've been a fan of the TWIT network. I've listened to the flagship show, TWIT (This Week In Tech), for a few years. I've also listened to Security Now as it is extremely good content. TWIT is the reason I got into podcasting in the first place.
The last couple of years I've enjoyed listening to TNT (Tech News Today) with Tom Merritt, Iyaz Akhtar, and others. Well all good things must come to an end, as they say. I find TWIT almost unbearable due to John C. Dvorak. If I wanted to listen to him, I'd download HIS shows. I don't, and I don't.
TNT fired Tom and lost Iyaz to another network leaving Sarah Lane and Mike Elgin. I'm sorry but no. Mike Elgin has the personality of a rock. A small rock. A small, utterly boring, rock. Sarah isn't a great deal better, she smacks her lips just before she starts speaking every time and it makes me want to stick a hypodermic needle in both ears.
Leo, do something about it. You can't expect people to keep listening to this. Elgin has to go. Sarah is tolerable if sitting opposite someone with some flair.
I'm down to listening to only Security Now. Heaven help TWIT if Steve Gibson decides to go elsewhere.

Further, it looks like Leo, himself, doesn't think you're right to host TNT either Mike. Sorry. http://twituncovered.com/2014/01/leo-laporte-admits-mike-elgan-tnt-will-probably-lose-entire-audience/

Get your vote on!
The nominations have been counted and it is now time to unveil the nominees for the 2014 Forensic 4:cast Awards. As always competition is fierce and many people/products/companies were nominated but only the top three in each category make it through for voting so congratulations to those that ...

I don't want everyone to think that I'm a freak that wears a foil hat and live in an underground bunker somewhere. No, I'm a pretty normal person, but I'm a private person so my views on privacy and breaches of that privacy mean a lot to me. There are, however, more than just privacy threats to ...

Police to get warrantless access to UK medical records. http://ourdigitalfreedom.com/?p=26
In yet another sickening move by the UK government, it has been revealed that its new medical database will allow the Police, or any other agency in the UK, to view any records without a warrant. The database was initially set up to allow sharing of data amongst doctors, hospitals, and so on.

Agree but seems no matter what, they do what they want in the end. They use slight of hand to confuse and if not today, they put it in a bill that gets passed. In the very back of the bill it is what they wanted but does not go in to effect until a few years down the road.

So I agree with you but how to fix it is the question...

Interesting project. Going through a couple articles and glad to see the Snowden interview. Unfortunately, I don't follow the issue that closely, but it's nice to catch up and have a link for others who ask me what's new.

Never mind. Found it. So that changes things a little, but only in terms of going to prison. You could still get a criminal record for streaming and still be sued for considerable money.

Lethal Forensicator
Introduction
I am a digital forensic investigator with 7 years experience in the field. During this time I have conducted many investigations for both criminal prosecution and defence, as well as conducting investigations for private clients. As part of my responsibilities I have appeared in court to testify on several occasions.

My most significant achievements in the field to date are:

1) Reverse Engineering of Microsoft Volume Shadow Copies
2) Establishing and Presenting the Annual Forensic 4cast Awards

My work on Volume Shadow Copies came about because of the difficulties facing forensic investigators in this area. I felt that, in order to assist in the investigating of Windows Vista and Windows 7 computers, these files needed to be fully understood. After several months of research I published my findings on my website.

The Forensic 4cast Awards is, as far as I am aware, the only vendor-neutral award ceremony for digital forensics organisations and individuals. The awards were started in 2009 and, since then, I have been asked to attend the SANS Forensic Summit each year, to host the awards show.

The awards are nominated and voted for by digital forensic practitioners across the world.

I have had the privilege of giving presentations in both the US and UK on several topics, including my research into Volume Shadow Copies.

I host the popular digital forensics podcast Forensic 4cast. This is very rewarding as I am able to meet and learn from others in the field. It also has afforded me the opportunity to discuss important issues relating to the field.
