Premier NSW Mike Baird has announced a 10 cent container deposit scheme to commence from July 2017. Both the ACT and Qld indicated previously that they would also if NSW did...but when?

At the risk of sounding like a tourist brouchure, you won't believe the quiet of this wilderness only a short way from the battlegrounds of Canberra's politics.
The Murrumbidgee River Corridor is 27 kms of pristine bush accessed by a walk and cycling trail puntuated by a series of picnic and camping areas within the ACT.
I walked the Kambah Pool to Tuggeranong Town Centre section yesterday in two hours without seeing another user. Wow.
PS. The stonewall on bottom left was built to separate two farming properties in the early part of the 19th century when this was the furthest NSW settlement was allowed.

As promised. Canberra's National Gallery has opened one of its more racey short term exhibitions this year, a big collection of installations by Fiona Hall targeting world affairs and the destruction of our environment. Loved the use of clocks to suggest the key role that time is taking in the dilemma we are facing. Yes, it's free.

It may be a blustery and wet 15C in Canberra but that didn't stop this solar powered prayer wheel from spinning out its funball reflections from a car rear window shelf. ☺

For once cameras in Canberra are focussed on something other than the antics of politicans. A Powerful Owl has taken up residence in Haig Park. When this photo was snapped on Sunday the big predator(top right) had a small marsupial in its grasp. See more at http://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2015-03-03/powerful-owl-spotted-in-suburban-canberra-park/6277744
The location was accurate if you would like to do a little bird watching yourself

Friendly so it's busy. Good for breakfasts. Popular with drivers because the parking is free and usually a space can be found. Popular with cyclists because it is next to a good bikeshop. Outside area is popular during summer but it's cosy inside during winter. At time of writing wifi not working.

Good bar with excellent, by-the-glass wine options for a civilised cinema experience. Plenty of annual foreign film festivals as well as the usual American pap. Booking via the net is often a wise option. Poor parking in New Acton especially at busy times... Cycling is a serious and sensible transport mode to this area.

Just pies...but solid, meaty pies that are hard to match. If the weather is good, pleasant outdoor seating area.
