Now I understand why Australian business wants to deny Climate Change: billions invested in infrastructure is about to rendered obsolete. We would have bet on solar.

Oh dear I smell trouble for geeks. Remember the reaction to Nike/Reebok Pumps in the 90s? http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1990-04-02/features/9001260979_1_reebok-pump-nike People were mugged not just for them but because they had the wealth to buy them . It is an interation of a rising social divide.

I think it's ridiculous that this journalist gets assaulted and his $1,500 property stolen and destroyed and then -- too PC for me -- works hard to "understand."

This is going too far, San Francisco.

I was looking for a "Facebook Free Zone" sign using the Google Images search but soon got derailed into looking at all the [personal peeve] free zone signs on the net. What took my attention was an oldie but a goldie for the velocipede--I like the way it evolved into something even better!

Be warned coal miners. “We have made good progress toward our target of financing and investing $40 billion in clean energy over the next decade,” says Stuart Bernstein, global head of both the Clean Technology and Renewables Group and the Venture Capital Coverage Group at Goldman Sachs.

My mouth flaps open.  What are they thinking? Note that the Koch Brothers who have been behind much of the denial of Climate Change have funded much of this push.

Consider this brief list of Australian cycling trends: SBS refocussing its cycling coverage on the elite sport aspect http://www.sbs.com.au/cyclingcentral/,  State Government Ministers continue to believe that compulsory helment wearing is a good policy (eg Craig Emerson questioning the recommendations of the expert committee report on cycling http://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/documents/committees/THLGC/2013/INQ-CYC/rp-39-29Nov13.pdf) ,  shockjocks and media in general seriously advocate for punitive laws against cyclists http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/reasons-we-hate-cyclists/story-fnihsrf2-1226771403219  Authorities continue to underspend on seperating vunerable commuter cycle traffic from heavy traffic.
Now we get the quantitative changes: while participation by the male middleclass ex-golfers takes off and celebrated, the general participation in cycling either remains steady of continues to fall according to the latest available data http://www.austroads.com.au/abc/australian-cycling-participation-2013 :
While bicycle ownership has remained steady in comparison to the 2011 Cycling Participation Survey, there has been a small but statistically significant decrease in the level of cycling
participation in Australia between 2011 and 2013."

Superb and thoughtful photo. Would "OK Glass, find Qibla direction" be a suitable caption?

Exploring the world with +Google Glass

Just recently, I met this gentleman in the wilds beyond the desert. He was so curious and interested in Glass. Absolutely transfixed, he asked me everything about it, then tried it on and played and played and played!  He loved it!

First I had him go through the same demo I give everyone.  I have them say, "Okay Glass, Take a picture" — it understands pretty much every accent around the world as far as I can tell. This always makes people freak out with excitement when they see the photo they just took floating as a hologram in front of their eyes.

Then he started using it more and more, going through all my emails, watching videos, seeing my text messages, asking Google questions, checking weather... I mean it just went on and on and on... and then he started showing all his friends and telling them about it — he was so excited.  Naturally, he was happy for me to take his photo while he was playing!

We ended up talking about a bunch of different things.  I even bought an old used knife from him, and he showed me how to stick the curved end of it into a camel's hump to get water in an emergency.  There's another part of the knife you use to seal up the little puncture wound.  Then we talked about mediation, the sealing of the four cardinal spiritual doors in the night before entering the tent, different cultures around the world, and well, about a dozen other things.  Anyway, it was great...

(btw after posting this, haha - I see that G+ automatically tagged it with Selfie!)

Clean, cavernous ultra modern interior with plenty of glassy views to the runways. A fitting front door of the Australia's national capital. Unfortunately, the exterior, despite some beautiful sculptures, is rather bald, windswept and open to the heat in summer and the cold in winter. Not all that easy to navigate to your chosen ground transport. You will find not much greenery softening the lines as you do in elsewhere in this very liveable city. On the way out, you will find a reasonably good group of cafe bars and a superb Qantas Lounge if you are a member.

Friendly, comfortable and on the street so you can see the passing parade of light traffic and people exercising. If you need to do some serious work, disappear inside to enjoy the full strength of the free WiFi and the relative privacy of the booths. The TV is normally muted and the music pleasantly subdued. Interesting food including the chilli mushrooms for breakfast but plenty of the old staples if you are not so adventurous. Can't comment on it as a bar but it has all the right vibes for a pleasant afternoon.

Like all biggish well establish Australian pubs the quality of the service and the food varies. As at the time of writing both are pretty good. But the real attraction of the place is its cool spacious setting in the middle of Cleveland. The bar is a bit spartan and it is a shame that they don't seem to bother running the water feature any more. The dining area is under roofing but has no airconditioning---it never seems to need it. Thankfully, while the views are not spectacular they look onto greenery rather than parking lots.

Come on guys! Its a second rate chain restaurant. Nothing wrong with the cleanliness, cost or service but it is just another purveyor of tasteless carbohydrates. You can do much better in getting a meal at the Sushi across the intersection or the two cafes, Harvest and the Coffee House.

Always good to drop into this daytime bistro/coffee shop. Service is always quick and friendly and the menu tends towards healthy choices rather than stodge. Pleasant outlook onto the High Street eating cluster close to the cinema and some reasonable places for basic shopping that aren't the usual chain stores. This is an update on a review that I did a year ago and I am pleased to say that the standard have been maintained. The specials change on a regular basis and are consistently better than any thing else in the area at lunchtime.
