Project Tango: a human-scale understanding of space and motion

Over the past year, Google’s Advanced Technologies and Products group, in collaboration with universities and research labs worldwide, has been working on Project Tango, an effort to incorporate the latest research in robotics and computer vision into a unique mobile phone.

The prototype device incorporates a tracking camera and a depth sensor that takes a quarter of a million measurements per second, constructing a 3D map of the local environment, and allows the exploration of the many ways we interact with our environment and each other.

To learn more, watch the short video, linked below. To apply for one of the 200 prototype development kits available, visit the Project Tango page at http://goo.gl/T1IUBU.

Forget your feature phone or any low-cost Android phone. The Redmi is what you should be looking at if you want to upgrade to an affordable smartphone, or if you're looking for a spare phone for use overseas.

Please like and share to help us spread our reach and educate the world of a viable alternative to the current system that would solve most of todays problems. Science, technology and the intelligent use of resources could create a world where poverty, war and unnecessary human suffering are viewed as not only avoidable, but completely unacceptable. We have the knowledge and resources today to create a quality of life much higher than even the richest people of today, for everyone in the world.

Interesting article. And, it seems solar energy is 5419 times more than total human consumption.

A few figures to understand further.
Year 2008, whole world energy consumption at 143,851 terawatthour.
which is about 16.42 terawatt in rate.

"total rate of solar energy received by the planet; about half, 89 petawatts (1.19×1014 hp), reaches the Earth's surface", which is about 89000 terawatt.

89000/16.42 =  5,420.21

Therefore, solar energy is 5419 times more than human consumption. With current conversion rate of PV panel at 10%, we still have 541 times.

So, with these extra energy, why are we paying now? are we paying now to build that infra for not paying in future? How much more to pay for? :)

Quite likely iPhone 6s or nexus 5.2 will have these sensors.

Last Thursday, I called on Android manufacturers to promise a full two years of upgrades for their flagship phones. Then a crazy thing happened.

Here's hoping this is just the beginning.

About Android vs. iOS upgrades...

My recent criticisms about the Android upgrade standard (http://goo.gl/a04vnK) generated a fair amount of iOS comparisons, so I thought I'd take a moment to address those.

Here's the short of it: Comparing iOS upgrades to Android upgrades is really comparing apples and oranges (so to speak). There are lots of differences in how things work and what constitutes an "upgrade" on each platform.

It's a topic I've written about in depth before, so I'm attaching a link for further reference. Next time you hear the "But Apple does upgrades so much better!" line, it might be worth resharing for perspective.
