We have heard it all before: how a new year is like a blank sheet and one must make the most of it. I believed this so much that I used to wash all my dirty clothes on the 30th or 31st of December; it was my way of starting the New Year on a clean slate.

As time went on, I began to wonder what the entire New Year hullabaloo was about. For goodness sake, we would just go to sleep one day and the next day is a new year. I didn’t feel different. It didn’t feel special. I mean, you are telling me that yesterday was an old year? Come on!

Click to continue reading Angela’s perspective of a brand new year, and how best you should consider strategies to make 2019 better than 2018. Happy New Year!

English Language plays a vital role in the Nigerian education system from primary to higher institutions. It is the official language of the country, and it is used as the medium of instruction. Suffice to say, English proficiency is an essential factor in educational achievement.

All secondary school students moving to colleges and universities are required to pass English at a minimum of credit level in addition to mathematics and other subjects related to their chosen disciplines. In spite of this requirement, performance in English senior school certificate examination (SSCE) has continued to dwindle with many factors responsible for the situation. Also, it is believed that the poor performance in the language has a tremendous effect on the performance in other subject areas.

Click below to read more about the causes of poor performance in English SSCE among Nigerian students and the measures needed to be taken to improve the situation.

When it comes to ground-breaking inventions, they often come from the developed countries – Europe, the Americas and sometimes Asia. It’s difficult to hear a major breakthrough coming from Africa. Even when in reality it does, it faces great challenges for acceptance.

Maxwell Chikumbutso, a Zimbabwean, invented a type of the electric car that has never been done elsewhere, but like any other new idea, he faces challenges both at home in Africa and from scientists across the globe.

Finally, the Americans invited him to explore the talent he's got in stock. Click to watch inventor Chikumbutso’s remarkable story, challenges and triumph: https://www.penprofile.com/videos/2003/702/maxwell-chikumbutso-a-zimbabwean-who-invented-an-electric-car

Before gaining admission into any Nigerian universities, or indeed any learning institutions around the world, a candidate needs to meet specific requirements. These requirements are mostly academic, but sometimes there are personal qualities, too, that a student needs to demonstrate because they are instrumental to his/her success in college.

In today’s article, our writer, Rahmatu Lawan, who has been exploring her experience as an MIS student, has researched for us all the basic requirements that you need to study MIS in Nigeria, whether you are a Nigerian or coming from another country. She has also listed the requirements you need as a Nigerian to study MIS abroad.

In addition to academic requirements, she has highlighted those interpersonal skills you need as well as the strategies to employ to face the challenges of studying the course. Click the link below to read:
