If I won the house in my divorce settlement, do I get to keep the furnishings?

The house is considered a single asset during divorce in Washington state, and the contents within may also be considered individual assets depending on their value and each spouse's desire to obtain the items. For instance, you may win the house, but your wife may claim your wall art collection because she was the one who picked out and purchased all the pieces. Likewise, you may be able to negotiate some of the furniture for your own keeping if you are the spouse to move out of the marital home. #divorce #propertydivision #washingtonstate

However, the nature of the domestic violence is called into question when determining things such as the well being of the children in custody decisions. Domestic violence can also be used as a factor in dividing assets and determining alimony if the violence caused long-term damage to the abused spouse that would impair employability or cause medical expenses (therapy, etc.). #divorce #domesticviolence #washingtonstate

Who gets the country club membership in a divorce?

Jointly held memberships like those at country clubs can be a difficult asset to divide during divorce. To determine how to handle this asset, you'll need to review your membership terms and provide evidence of how the membership was paid for. If it was paid out of a jointly held account, you may both be entitled to the memberhsip, while if one spouse paid the fees, he or she may have more pull in securing the asset. #divorce #countryclubs

Child support agreements are designed to cover your child's basic needs including room and board, health care, and school. However, private school tuition is not an automatic consideration in most child support agreements. If your spouse refuses to help pay for your child's private school tuition, you will have to provide proof that the schooling is necessary.
