Employee turnover has been a constant problem for the #trucking industry. Long hours, low pay, and poor working conditions have caused the turnover rate to stay at or near 100 percent for many years now. Transportation companies address this problem in a variety of ways. Some offer significant signing bonuses. Others offer drivers dedicated time off or guaranteed mileage rates. Now the trucking industry seeks to change federal laws to allow #teendrivers to cross state lines. #Houston #TruckAccidents

The National Safety Council recently conducted a survey of more than 75,000 people to examine the effects of fatigue in the workplace. This survey found that, though fatigue affects us all at one point or another, there are some who have a higher risk of fatigue than others given their lifestyle or occupation.

Two motorcycle crashes resulted in fatalities, injuries, and further proof that these sorts of collisions are more than often devastating.

The holiday weekend was marred by two separate events: one in which a motorcyclist and pickup truck were racing. The truck flipped, trapping the driver beneath it, while the motorcyclist was thrown onto the shoulder.

The second collision occurred while police cruisers were blocking the scene of a motorcycle accident. A possibly intoxicated driver of a Kia Soul crashed into them, injuring themselves, the police officers, and one other driver who was taken to the hospital.

According to Houston car accident lawyer Gene S. Hagood of +Law Offices of Gene S. Hagood, Motorcycle accidents are often fatal when their drivers are behaving recklessly.

Our Houston truck accident lawyer blogged last month about the nationwide trucker shortage and the added risk it poses to motorists.

The current regulatory environment (which is one of deregulation) continues to put the burden on motorists forced to share the road with these tractor-trailers and other large commercial vehicles. Just last month, USA Today reported the U.S. Department of Transportation is delaying or repealing several initiatives, including a proposal that would require heavy trucks to have software that electronically limits speed.

There are many causes of truck accidents. Long hours, difficult maneuvering and pressure to meet mileage goals make truck driving a demanding profession with a high turnover rate, leading to a shortage of qualified truck drivers. Unfortunately, this shortage places pressure to put drivers on the road when they are too tired, inexperienced or otherwise unsafe to operate heavy trucks with massive cargo loads.

Just before 5 A.M. , #MontgomeryCounty saw its first fatal accident of 2018. A Chevrolet pickup truck had crossed the center line of the road around a curve, striking a Honda Accord head-on with enough force to practically tear the vehicle in two. The male occupant was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to the hospital in critical condition, and is thought to have been distracted while driving. The accident occurred at FM 1485 East near Heights Drive.
According to Houston car accident Attorney +Law Offices of Gene S. Hagood, Distracted driving is the cause of hundreds of fatalities nationwide.

Highway driving can be highly dangerous in the many construction zones around the Houston area. This is why speed limits are reduced near construction zones and fines and penalties are increased to encourage drivers to adhere to the reduced speed limit.

Road rage often has fatal consequences. In 2016, AAA conducted a study on aggressive driving that revealed 80% of drivers expressed road rage in the past year.

Not stopping at simple hand gestures and swears, 8 million drivers engaged in dangerous confrontations like ramming another vehicle or getting out of the car to confront a driver.

In Texas, road rage overtook two drivers who were involved in a minor rear-end collision that turned into a shootout. One shooter sustained a chest wound and was taken to hospital, and an innocent bystander was grazed in the head by a bullet. Both drivers/shooters are in police custody.

According to Texas car accident attorney Gene S. Hagood, holiday commutes can be some of the most stressful. Drivers are urged to put safety first and avoid retaliating against aggressive drivers.
