The kids helped make chocolate chip pecan cookies to leave out for Santa. Chocolate chip pecan are this Santa's favorite. Maybe I can convince the kids that Santa would prefer some Scotch over a glass of milk.

It's a New Year and while I don't have any particular resolutions I did sit down and figure out actual lifting goals with a timeline that fit along with the new training program I've been following.

I'm still chasing double my weight for a dead lift one rep max (300 lbs) and my long term goal for bench is my bodyweight but because I'm now doing a program that involves 5 sets of 5 reps I'm unlikely to test my one rep max before the meet I plan to compete in in October (unless we do another one at work).

For squat, remember when I did 225 for the first time for 2 reps? Well, my goal is to do 5 sets of 5 reps at 225 by March.

My 1 rep max for bench press is 120. My goal is to get to 120 for my 5x5 before my birthday on April 23 (and 135 within 6 months).

For dead lift I had been lifting with a modified sumo stance since I first started lifting but then had been trying out conventional stance since late October. It hasn't felt super comfortable so I'm going back to what feels better this week. My goal for dead lift is to get past the weird block I've had with getting 250 off the ground lately (which is frustrating when I know I have pulled 275 before) and getting my working weight for dead lift to 260 (the weight I missed at the meet in October) by my mom's birthday (March 22).

I'll report back when I hit them and we'll see how I do.

Haha, I think that would be tough these days. I've gotten pretty good at the funky barbell/plate math. Besides, half our fun is optimizing for fewer movements when switching between our weights.

My dad started making these dates with cream cheese and pecans stuffed inside for holidays at some point when I was a kid. Happy memories when we make them and eat them.

That sounds delicious.

Another thing my dad did was to put peanut butter on Ritz crackers and a square of par-boiled bacon on it and then broil that for a minute or two.

I realized today that getting the fresh Christmas tree into the house used to be a bit of an ordeal. This year I just tossed it over my shoulder and carried it in without a second thought.

While in UK, we saw a mum walking w/ a tree and poking her kiddo in the butt with the tip. XD

Watching and stirring these onions as they saute is mesmerizing, relaxing, and smells delicious.
