We're in big trouble if I ever switch from powerlifting.

Because I forgot to take a picture of dinner you get the view from the kitchen table as we eat dinner instead. Everything we ate tonight came either from our own garden (that I brought up with us) or from Tide Mill Organic Farm in Edmunds which we've been ordering meat, produce and dairy from the past four years we've come up to Lubec. Roasted chicken legs, roasted potatoes with onions and garlic, and sautéed rainbow chard with more onions and garlic. The kids drank some chocolate milk from their dairy.

OHHHHHH, so THIS is what it's like if you are trying to lose weight and you don't have an eating disorder.

When I started seriously considering competing in a Powerlifting meet, I checked out the weight classes and saw that I was at the very bottom of the 165 pound class. For powerlifting (and apparently wrestling, boxing, other things where there are weight classes...I never really thought about these things before) you want to be as close to the higher end of the weight class because you ... are then heavier. And frequently that means stronger.

I was 4 pounds over the 148-pound class. So, I decided I'd do a bit of research and figure out a nice healthy way to cut fat while still gaining muscle before my first meet in October.

Yes, there are not-as-healthy ways of shedding pounds in a short period of time right before weigh-ins but this is my first meet and I don't want to risk dehydration or other weird things by doing one of those methods.

So I'm paying close attention to my macronutrients (but no foods are off limits; I can eat whatever foods I want as long as I'm aiming for the right amount of protein, carbs and fat) and would you look at that, I'm down 3 pounds since I started doing this about a month ago.

I haven't binged once. I haven't felt like I failed and that I should give up and eat all the things. I am not trying to lose weight because I think I'm fat. I just want to get below 148 so I can be on the upper end of a weight class and maybe have a chance of winning something. :)

If I'm 149 lbs on October 7 at weigh-in, oh well, so I'll be on the low end of the 165 class. No big deal. It's my first meet and I will be battling nerves before my lifts so I'm not going to worry about what class I am in.

This may seem trivial but it's amazing seeing myself "on a diet" without having an unhealthy mental state surrounding it for the first time like ever.

Haha, maybe I'll reconsider my statement from last week about deadlift being my favorite seeing as I tweaked my back on my last set this morning! Stupid deadlift! ;)

I'm joking. Injuries can happen! I'll be a good girl and let it heal. I want to continue lifting for ever and ever so it'll be okay if I take it easy for the week or two it'll take for it to heal up. I've done this before though not in quite awhile, so I guess that is a good thing.

Thankfully, it doesn't seem to be too bad! I was able to squat today without any pain though I'll play Monday (deadlift day) by ear and may skip it or just go super light.
