I had a blast guest hosting +Marlene Oliveira's Nonprofit MarCommunity #NPMC tweet chat. It was a fast and furious Twitter conversation about storybanks for better #storytelling. There was space for learning by people new to storytelling as well as people who have already established storybank systems. See what we discussed in the archives of the tweet chat. #contentstrategy #socialmedia #nptech

Giving gifts to government colleagues is tricky business. At the federal level, strict rules govern gifts between government employees. What memorable gifts can you get for your government coworkers that follow the rules? #holidays #giftideas

I love what +Marlene Oliveira wrote when sharing my new blog post for +Nonprofit MarCommunity:

"In this blog post, Lauren Girardin confesses to using Reddit. But after reading the potential benefits she describes, I think it's those of us who DON'T use it who are guilty!"

How your nonprofit organization can use Reddit

In this +Nonprofit MarCommunity blog post, +Lauren Girardin confesses to using Reddit. But after reading the potential benefits she describes, I think it's those of us who DON'T use it who are guilty!

I have a confession. Take a seat. It may disturb you. I use Reddit. And I believe more nonprofit communicators should use it, too. Reddit is a community of communities. It’s like going to a gigantic high school—you can’t possibly know everyone and you certainly won’t all get along. But, within the Reddit website, you… Read More »

Contests, competitions, and challenges have evolved, and have become sophisticated, ambitious, and even a little bit crazy. These #contests—and the prizes and recognition offered to the winners—use #crowdsourcing to engage people in creative solving problems. They spur innovation and incite fierce competitiveness.

Let’s take a look at five of the craziest government contests.

Buried, hopefully deeply, in my hometown newspaper archives, there’s a photograph of a dorky 8-year-old me whose mom dressed her funny. (To be fair, it was the 80s. We were all dressed funny.) In the photo I proudly and nervously showed off my award-winning anti-drunk driving poster of a drawing of a girl crying a single cartoonish blue... Read more »

Introduction
I use my creative chutzpah to help nonprofits and foundations engage their communities and share their stories. I specialize in moving marketing and communications projects from strategy through implementation, applying my planning foresight to right-size the work.

I'm determined to help organizations experiment bravely in their social media, blogging, content marketing, media relations, brand messaging, and other digital and traditional communications. No noob to digital, my first professional social media experience was running Arianna Huffington’s plucky Friendster profile during the 2003 California gubernatorial campaign. I have a B.A.—in chemistry, of all things—from New York University.

My clients include California Family Health Council and TeenSource, Caravan Studios, the David & Lucile Packard Foundation, GovLoop, Points of Light, NGOsource, TechSoup Global, YTH, and others. I've presented at several NTEN Nonprofit Technology Conferences, the Commonwealth Club, and for the California Wellness Foundation, Ford Foundation, and others. I'm also predisposed to extroverted activities.
