Want to share your thoughts on the new NASW 2017 Technology Standards for Social Work Practice? Similar to our approach in responding to the draft standards in July 2016, I have created a document that our community can use to crowd source a response and/or resource list. Beyond collecting our thoughts and ideas, I have no big plans for this effort and would be interested in your ideas.

Here is a link to the document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/16D0Y7VBW-8nanufTu8pWodPKXUcU187r84c3ZPECl78/edit?usp=sharing (which is view and comment only). If you are interested in contributing, please email me at lihitch@uab.edu and I'll give you editing access. I will check the document every month.

Hello All! I just wrote a post about FERPA and Social Media Assignments: http://www.laureliversonhitchcock.org/2017/06/09/ferpa-social-media-thoughts-for-social-work-education/. I would appreciate any thoughts or comments for the #swtech community. Many thanks to Brendan Beal, Jane McPherson and Beth Counselman for their contributions.

I've noticed that other professions have a hashtag for higher education such as #MedEd and #RNedu. Both are registered with the Symplur Healthcare Hashtag Project. I think we need one for social work too. Consider voting for one of the tags below. When we have a winner, I'll register it with Symplur. Maybe we could get a live chat going too?

I have noticed some education hashtags for professional programs in higher ed such as #MedEd and #RNedu, and both are registered with the Symplur Healthcare Hashtag project. I think we need a recognized hashtag for Social Work Education, maybe leading to a chat. I created a poll with two possibilities. Please pick your favorite and I will register one with Symplur for our use. BTW - we can't use #SWED. It means smoke weed every day. Let me know your thoughts.

I have just submitted a group response to NASW about the draft tech standards. Here is a link to the final document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1g7vyG4AFnlIo5JUBeuUH7xbazMaJUEaLqjPxrY1sj7A/edit?usp=sharing. We had 11 authors and four people who endorsed the response. Many, many thanks to everyone who contributed and edited this document! Fingers crossed that our feedback will make a difference.

FYI - Plan to write a blog post about all the different feedback submitted. I would like to include our group's response. Please let me know if you are not agreeable; otherwise I will move forward.

Just a quick update on my thoughts for submitting our comments about the Draft Tech Standards. If everyone could have their comments posted by 6/18, I will edit the document on 7/19. I will: 1) write a short introduction about who we are and how we created the document; 2) minimum editing on the general comments to pull it all together; 3) edit the specific comments for grammar and remove names & initials; and 4) add everyone's name as an author. I will let you know when it is ready for a final review, giving everyone about 24 hours for a final review. It will be submitted on 7/20 by 5:00 PM. Please let me know if you agree with this plan or not. If not, please offer me some options. Thanks to everyone who has contributed!
