The benefits of walking are undeniable; from weight loss to improved endurance, increased muscle tone to long range health.  Walking can be a means to help you in reaching all of these goals.  What's more, walking is easy, fun, inexpensive, and time sensitive.  I've used it myself as a valuable tool in my own weight loss efforts.

Losing weight, no matter what the method, is never easy.  It takes hard work and discipline; there are really no short cuts.  It's worth it though.  And I would argue that weight maintenance is the major key to increasing your chances of a long and healthy life.  Although exercise helps, you will have to monitor your food intake if you want to lose weight.  It's a sad-but-true reality.

When I was 20, 50 seemed so far away -- and seemed, well, old.  I remember my mom and her friends with their "Fifty is Nifty" T-shirts and thinking, "No. Fifty is not that at all.  But, no worries," I'd say to myself, "I won't be there for a long, long time."

I recently lost a job that I had for over 20 years.  It wasn't just any job, mind you.  I was an accountant/bookkeeper/customer service representative for my family's business.  I was devastated.  It wasn't supposed to happen this way.  This was a part of my family and a piece of my father's legacy that helped me keep him alive a little while longer.
But one day it was all over.

Introduction

Laura M. Turner is a 15-year veteran fitness instructor, fitness trainer and natural health practitioner who is dedicated to inspiring and educating others about the benefits of natural health and fitness. Laura is also a noted journalist, publishing her work in many publications national, regional and online including American Fitness, Natural Bodybuilding and Fitness and Adirondack Life. Laura has also contributed to many books including: Share Your Mission and 101 Ways to Improve Your Health.

In 2003, Laura launched the publishing company Violet Prose Publications to publish her growing number of books and programs which include The Brand New Body Total Wellness Program and the mind/body handbook, Spiritual Fitness: The 7-Steps to Living Well, as well as editing the online magazine The New Body News and Wellness Letter. She has also hosted her own webcast on iTunes: The Tuesday Body Talk With Laura Podcast.  These efforts have grown into the Body Talk With Laura Blog. Here Laura showcases her philosophy of wellness, fitness and integrative medicine in effort to inspire others to live in optimum health.

Laura has a B.A. in English Literature with a concentration in Health Science from Nazareth College in Rochester, New York. In 2006 she completed her graduate degree in Nutritional Medicine from Clayton College in Birmingham, Alabama and is a Certified Personal Trainer and group fitness instructor through the American Fitness Association of America (AFAA). She is also recognized and certified by the National Board Of Drugless Practitioners and continues to be interested in coaching others toward total mind/body health.
