We are pleased to announce that Coos Art Museum has acquired Michael Brophy's Drift: Driftwood 4. The acquisition was made possible by the Ford Family Foundation’s Art Acquisition Program. The Art Acquisition Fund, managed by the Oregon Arts Commission, helps visual arts institutions with publicly accessible collections acquire seminal works by Oregon visual artists. The painting is the first by Brophy to join the museum’s collection, which is focused on Pacific Northwest culture.

Established in 1986 in Portland, Oregon, the Laura Russo Gallery is one of the most beautiful showcases for art in the Pacific Northwest. We exhibit work of the highest quality by both established and emerging artists. The gallery represents contemporary Northwest artists working in a variety of media including painting, sculpture, works on paper, and fine art prints. Their art encompasses a diversity of styles, ranging from landscape to abstract expressionism. The gallery features solo exhibitions on a monthly basis, as well as selected group shows and special exhibitions.

I haven't spent much time going to galleries, and frankly I sometimes feel a little intimidated when I do. My experience at Laura Russo Gallery helped ease that trepidation. The employees at the front desk were very friendly and patient with my numerous questions. They were happy to pull some pieces out of the back room to show me some of the work that was not currently on display. I was interested to learn the gallery focuses almost exclusively on artists from the Pacific Northwest. It's a beautiful gallery, and I discovered a number of artists whose work I really responded to. I will definitely be visiting more often!
