Alone with the Books - Night Three
We all agree that the scholarly, and/or rare books, should go to Brandeis as was Gerda's wish. Surely they will be more loved and used there than just sitting on shelves at one of the kids' houses. It's letting go of the collection as a whole that is so har...

"The prevailing narrative surrounding minorities in tech relates to how beneficial employing minorities can be for a company and/or how detrimental the lack of diverse perspectives can be. I’ve searched for, and have been disappointed to find that no studies have been done on the psychological effects of being a minority in a mostly homogeneous workplace for an extended period of time. Here I’ll try to highlight how it has affected me, as I grew from a young black lady to a black woman in the predominantly white male tech industry."

This is my truth.

(Huge thanks to +Russell Holly+Louis Gray, and +Ryan O'Donnell for proofreading.)
We know how lack of diversity can adversely affect a business. This is how lack of workplace diversity has adversely aff…

Orkut was my first social networking love. The first scrap on my wall there, from +Adam Rifkin, is dated April 5, 2004.

I am terrible at goodbyes and letting go. Even though I haven't looked at the darn place more than once a year at best for the past six or seven years, I'm going to miss it.

Why do things have to change?

Two Cars: What if We Could Empathize With Earth?
Today on my way to work, I was missing my cushy car. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I drive our old Toyota truck. It's a manual, with manual steering and no radio. As I was missing our comfortable new automatic Camry and the radio, I thought: What if driving our...

People, Let Me Tell You About My Best Friend
My mom and I used to really love to watch The Courtship of Eddie's Father. The song was the best. Somehow that song popped into my head recently, and it's making me face the reality that I did lose my best friend. My mom died November 15, 2013 and I'm still...

Hey friends, I'm helping NTEN, my all-time favorite organization, with their 2013 Challenge. What does this mean?

NTEN has helped me grow professionally and network with an amazing group of peers doing all sorts of nonprofit goodness in a myriad of settings.

If you care about me you'll donate to this challenge. If you care about stuff like, you know, human rights, cute animals, clean water, ending homelessness, etc. -- all that tree-hugging stuff -- you'll donate to this challenge. Because NTEN helps nonprofit organizations strengthen their staff, increase their outreach, and meet their missions.

So, long story short, this is kind of my Holiday Season charity this year. Please give to NTEN instead of giving me a gift. Thanks!

Throwback Thursday: Musings on Internet Privacy
My IT guy just told me to delete a folder I had called "personal music - move to Google". It was really old and I had forgotten all about it but it was hogging up 3GB. Well, that led me down memory lane to all kinds of crazy files I have here at work. One...
